Default Maybe my expectations were too high

..after the Warner announcement, but I've been feeling disappointed by the rate of HDDVDs dissolution from marketplace. I was really hoping (expecting) one or both of the big studios to announce BluRay production very soon after Warner but they're still pretty silent.
None of the big B&Ms have announced exclusivity either. Just rumors and anicdotal observations. Sure Woolworth's of UK has gone exclusive, but I don't know anything about them so it really doesn't mean much (to me.).
We've received regular bits of good news, but nothing *BIG* since Warner.

Does anyone else think this might drag on past June or later?!

That's why I didn't allow myself to get into the hype and the excitment. I'm taking in each validated news as they come. Maybe that April date will be true, but who really knows. Only one good thing is that everyone is basically calling for the demise of HD DVD so that the consumer can finally have one format; that format being Blu Ray.

It's finished now, nothings dragging on, just the normal course it takes for these things to play out.

PS, it was stated around CES time NDA's had been signed so insider discussion re. Paramount/Universal will be limited.

If you were around when Paramount left, people were going crazy!
It is just when something big happens, you want it to end the war. Even though this will end it, it will take longer than we want it to.
Patience is something you must learn on these forums. We will have a Blu-ray world, we will just have to wait for the world to catch up with us first.

I don't know about everyone else, but while Warner's decision was big, they also said that they were going to be dual format till June. So, I didn't think that we would see anything truly major until around that time.

That said, I think it's great to see official announcements from companies that are going BD exclusive. If more and more do the same, it's just a matter of time before the really big news comes.

Crimminy, it's only been a month since the Warner announcement.

The announcement was just the beginning of the end and it may drag out longer than we all hoped, but trust this war is basically over. Once June swings around and the numbers are even more embarrasing (for HD-DVD than they already have been) then Paramount and Universal will be forced to release on Blu or make no profit.

Paramount and Universal are both probably locked into some kind of contract with HD-DVD, and making any announcements now about switching sides could potentially cause them some kind of legal trouble. Also, even if they could just announce it without it causing problems, if they are stuck in contracts for 6 months, a year, or more, it would just be too much of a tease to announce their eventual plans now when they can't even begin to impliment them.

its not like everyone can all of a sudden drop support and pull all DUD titles from the shelf. Shit like this takes time. Red tape has to be cleared before things can go into motion.

I expected with the massive swing in hardware and software that we've seen in just 3 weeks that maybe people would realize that there HAS ALREADY been a huge turn and that even a chimp would have the patience to give things a couple of months resolve themselves.

Guess my expectations of the human race were just too high.

Toshiba and the retailers want to get rid of their current inventory, hence the sale and clearance sales.

I think we will start to hear rumblings next month, but I don't think we will see any titles from either Paramount or Universal until late summer/early fall.

It's too bad Warner couldn't just drop HD-DVD like Paramount dropped us. I understand why they didn't, but it stinks waiting until June for the big effect to be felt.

It's the slowest part of the year for releases.

Relax, hang back, enjoy a few good movies.

But I don't want to?

Ah, sorry just noticed.

'Trust' me, Thrust me, well, can almost be vulgar .

Patience my friend, the dominoes are falling, slowly, but you can see it happening week by week. The sales numbers have heavily favored Blu-ray since the WB announcements. This process will continue, and I think it will be all but over before summer. But I'm sure it will take much longer for the format to totally die out.

it`s been stated already that the last 2 supporting companies would be kind not to jump ship too fast as to show at least some respect to toshiba and their failed format ,so its kind of a yeah well at least uni and para***** stood by us ,lol
