Thanks! I never could get WMP working so a switched to tversity but since it's my work laptop and causes issues when I'm connected at work I ended up uninstalling it. Maybe I'll give WMP one more try with your instructions. |

i stream about 40 gigs of content at any given time. tv shows, movies. I use tversity on a wireless connection with a linksys router. I would say it works 80% of the time flawlessly. My laptop which is only 1.67ghz with a gig of ram is transcoding it all.
Basically you need to uninstall all the codec drivers, get k-lite codec full version. install it and then install tvsersity with installing the additional codecs. then add the folder you want to share. the settings in tversity are pretty simple to change. set the video output to 1920 by 1080. just look at everything and read it. it takes an hour to create a large library of files so don't be surprised if no files show up for awhile on the PS3. the forum on tversity is pretty good. and patience... |

If you have any trouble, let me know... I've set up a number of systems for people using WMP11 and have worked through most of the more common problems. |

Theoretically all that is properly set up when you install WMS 11 and start sharing files. However I was unable to make that work when using XP automated install package. Only vanilla install worked for that. No idea why. All services were running and ports were open, still it'd recognize xbox but not ps3 and wouldn't stream anything to xbox anyway. Oh, and use tversity instead of windows media server. Works better and supports more formats. Last edited by Zvi; 01-30-2008 at 06:47 PM. |

All of this brings to mind this point: the PS3 owners manual is terrible for anything beyond basic set-up info and playing a movie/game. It doesn't even adequately explain saving pics from a camera SD on the machine's harddrive.
If they want the many other features of the machine to be seen as positives to non-early adaopter types, they need to explain these other features better. If I didn't have a 14 year old to help me, I'd be lost. ![]() |

I'm behind an IP Cop firewall running on a 1ghz P3... Windows Firewall is junk... Linksys and other SOHO routers are too slow for my needs.

Is there a way I can do this using Samba? All these files are hosted on an SMB share on a Fedora 7 machine. I added them to the library on a Windows XP machine and set that up to share them. |

I ask because I had a similar issue but it was WMP issue. I had to make a change to the registure to get it to share any files that was not on the PC. |

I did not read you post right the first time. Try this steps on the PC you are running WMP 11 on. Note the making mistake in registry can cause serious issues with your PC: 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. 2. In the registry tree (on the left), expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, Microsoft, MediaPlayer, and then Preferences. 3. Right-click HME, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. 4. Type EnableRemoteContentSharing, and then press ENTER. 5. Right-click EnableRemoteContentSharing, and then click Modify. 6. In the Value data text box, type 1, and then click OK. If you later decide to disable remote content sharing, you can repeat this procedure and change the value to 0. If this does not work here is a link to some other steps to try: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...q/sharing.mspx I hope this helps. I'm guessing that registry key is the answer I was looking for on the WMP route. These files are remote, I have all my mp3s, videos and photos on a linux machine with samba shares that work fine with all my PC's. |

If you are using Windows Media Player 11. Add the files you want it to "share". I had to add the files from my third hard drive where I keep all my media files. Also make sure in the XMB when you want to see a Photo, you aren't trying to find it while in the Movie tab etc.

Cool. Let me know if this does indeed help you out with WMP 11. I know it drove me crazy for a while before I finally got it working.

Bah... still no good. No matter what I seem to do it can see the PC but doesn't see any media at all. I'm gonna go with a Linux solution. All the files are shared on a Linux computer anyway so it's cutting out the middle man.
