Default CBS' "Everybody Loves Raymond" Discussion (1996-2005)

How likely is it that this will eventually be released on bd? It's the deal of the day now...

I felt the same way about the show at first, but my thoughts changed. I'm sure the fans will LOVE to have it released on Blu-ray. I won't buy it, mainly because I can just watch it on FoxHD.

Me too, I don't think its sold well enough to get blu-ray maybe when the process is cheap and they see massive results with tv shows selling well. But as of now I think you're looking at a long wait.

(I got the house box with every season for 64.99 brand new )

It was shot on 35mm film, so there is a very good chance. But the chance for it, and other shows like Seinfeld, being released is slim because of the fact that they originally aired in 4:3, and the purists are insane about keeping this (and generally insane), while most of the world does not want burn-in on their screens and therefore want 16:9. I will buy this show, and Seinfeld, if they ever get released, because the HD transfers for HDTV are subpar and compressed all to hell, and there is a carrier logo.

The answer is going to be the same next december 27th 3 years after my first post , no. TV shows even epic ones don't typically sell well, so again until its so undeniably cheap to redo them you've still got quite a wait.

no offense but your just being a troll.

Seriously how do know tv shows are not doing better now, friends is coming, that 70 show is coming, Star Trek TNG is coming, um your claim is that tv shows are not selling well where is the proof? Why are they releasing those shows if there is no market? I didn't ask is it likely to sell in the millions I asked any word on if they are coming, the more correct answer would be no haven;t heard anything yet but who knows. Since YOU don't know don't reply I already got your answer and I think you do not know what your talking about you spoke with authority so where is the evidence that no new tv shows will come out ever on Blu Ray?

lmao nobody said no new tv shows will never come out the point was that TV shows in general don't typically sell well (second time), which casues very delayed releases, if they get released at all (see the many shows that still haven't come out on dvd). Your misinterpretation of what was said isn't me being a troll.

Also not even mentioned are the broadcast/ownership rights of not just the show, but music. This was a problem with the George Lopez Show and why they only have two seasons out. And if logical statements regarding the status of tv shows in general are by your definition trolling, then I don't know where to go from there.

So I have been watching Raymond for quite a few years now, as it is on a continuous cycle here in New Zealand. I've seen the whole series probably two or three times, but it just keeps me laughing all the time.

For me, I think a good way of knowing how funny the show is, depends on the length of Debras hair.. the longer it gets, the funnier it is. The first couple of seasons didn't really do anything for me, but the more it went on, and the more the characters really got defined, it ends up being quite possibly one of the best sitcoms on television.

I would probably get this if it were out on Blu-Ray.. does anyone know how it was filmed, and if it would benefit from a BD release?

I forget what season... but most of the seasons aired in HD on CBS... I have also seen all the early seasons (even ones that originally aired in SD) on TBS in HD... looks like they got the Seinfeld treatment.

Basically, I think the show was shot on film... and most of the seasons were widescreen HD in their airing... so it should be very possible to release on Blu-ray if there is demand.

I use to be somewhat a fan of this show when it was on TV but after awhile I quit watching it because Marie started to annoy me. Over the years since I have caught it on and manage to watch it for a couple of hours, even though Marie still gets on my nerves.

I am re watching it now for the fourth time. If available on Bluray I would purchase it. To the poster who said that they find Marie annoying I truly understand. In my world if some family member interfered with my life to the extent she did would find themselves buried deep in my back garden.

Actually only the first 3 seasons were 4:3, the last 6 were shot natively in 16:9. Also, even the first 3 seasons have been re-formatted to 16:9 for HD broadcast, so the material is there.

I wish Netflix would upgrade seasons 1-3 in HD. I thought they weren't shot in 16:9, but after doing a comparison with the 4:3 versions I seen that they opened it up.

EDIT: Here's the comparison shots for anyone interested:

I feel a little ripped off to know that the first three seasons on DVD were sold in 4:3 when they were clearly filmed in 16:9, as I can plainly see on my digital subchannel every night on TV. It's sad when a show actually looks better on a digital broadcast TV subchannel signal than it does on a purchased DVD.

Exactly. It looks better on TVLand in HD. I would love the Blu-ray treatment for the whole series.

They may have been filmed with 16x9 protection... that is unclear... but they were originally aired in 4:3, so no doubt that is why the DVDs released that way.

I have not studied the HD versions in syndication enough to tell if those early years were zoomed to make HD or cropped terribly or what.

Even if they were filmed protected for widescreen presentation... those DVDs came out before other TV shows were being regularly released in widescreen format I think.
