I have searched for this and found some people saying that this receiver can't handle pcm through hdmi. Is this correct?
Page 18 of the manual says: A digital audio signal transmitted by HDMI can be output form the speakers on this receiver. This signal supports Dolby Digital, DTS and linear PCM. So can it process the 5.1 pcm signal sent from the ps3 via hdmi? |

the 710 does not support "multichannel" PCM.
you need an 810 or higher. (ask Leopold Butters! hes been through it) Last edited by crackinhedz; 01-30-2008 at 09:09 PM. |

I have an 810, and it does do 5.1 PCM, the reason I bought it was that the 710 did not.

That is new to me.
So it will do 2ch PCM via HDMI, not multichannel? But it also will do DD and DTS via HDMI? so the HDMI input acts like an optical cable? Supports the lossey and 2ch pcm like a toslink connection would? Is this totally weird or what? I thought that HDMI could either process all HD audio, or it just passed it through and didn't separate any audio at all.... So if I were to use this receiver, I would get the same sound as if I used a HDMI cable for the video and optical for the audio? Just happens that it is all in one? I have just never heard of this "limited" HDMI audio processing before.... |

Nope, it isn't for me. I already have a 605 that I love.
This is a budget receiver for my brother in law, it should do well enough for the time being. I don't know that he is desiring the HD audio anyway, just a simple way to set everything up. This will be fine for his money. Thanks again! |
