not gonna lie the standalone cover looks badass but i rather just get the set,i mustve owned the 1st movie in 5 different editions already,so just the set with sequel will be fine with me,just wanna see if the pq will be better or worse than ARROWS release

I've heard complaints about Anchor Bay's transfers in the past, hopefully this will be better.

It was really only AB's first line of BDs that were disappointing, Evil Dead II being the only truly awful transfer. Later transfers like The Evil Dead, Hellraiser, I Spit on Your Grave, El Topo, The Holy Mountain, and Frozen are great.

Any limitations on this relase? I remember the UK version being limited to 10.000(?) units. The price already doubled since then.

Does anyone think that the Anchor Bay Battle Royale version will have better, same, or worse video quality than the UK Arrow blu-ray?

No clue. I do know the US is getting an audio upgrade for our release, though.

I just wish the cover art for the set was as bad ass as the single-disc edition!

I think it's funny that so many are saying the single-disc cover art looks better. It is a horrible photo-shop job, just look at the floating gun, clearly not being held by a hand. That flaw really bothers me, and now that I have seen it I can't forget it. I was going to get the complete collection because I want both the theatrical and director's cuts of the first film, but the cover art seals it for me.

Whoa... what's going on with that shotgun in the single-disc cover? That's weird. Is it hanging on a strap or something?

Anyway... how awesome would it be if the team that handled the blu-ray restoration for Aliens were given the opportunity to handle Battle Royale?

I think both covers look great. US distribs typically go for the spoon-fed "here ya go!" shitty cover art so Im thrilled AB is going for something a lil more challenging to the consumer...

To me, it looks like they are attempting to hide the fact that it is a foreign film (oh, God, not subtitles) and features Asian actors. I've just seen too many covers for Asian action films where they cut off the leading actor's head.

As for the transfer, it remains to be seen if AB will be using the same transfer Toei provided to Arrow or if they will be spending the money to create a new transfer.

i know this for a fact! ur spot on! but to be fair this is no infernal affairs or jackie chan black t-shirt hack job. both covers look cool and dont misrepresent the film. it oversells it a bit but thats marketing!

I will be shocked if Anchor Bay's version is better than Arrow's. I believe Arrow did a fantastic job with the print they had to work with. Along with all the fantastic swag in the Arrow release I believe the US release will be okay, but not great. Arrow did a lot of work with BR & I am not sure how much time AB put in to their release. (If I remember right, the BR release way delayed while Arrow worked long hours to make it right for the fans)

More often, though, they just put a random chick that has nothing to do with the movie on the cover.

Thumbs down so much for the "complete" collection

Woah! What happened to the 4th disc? are we only getting the theatrical cut of BR2 now? Though BR2 was a real letdown, I felt the extended version of it made it a little better. The inclusion of it was what held my interest in this new release. And based on the listed included bonus features, Arrow's release had more; not to mention the packaging. What a disappointment.

I hope you are right, because I don't want to double dip again and feel stupid because I went through the whole ordeal of waiting for the UK blu-ray during that postal strike!

This set will have 4 discs, however only the Director's Cut of Battle Royale II: Requiem is included.
The discs are:
1) Battle Royale Director's Cut with both Japanese and English language tracks and English subtitles
2) Battle Royale Theatrical Cut with both Japanese and English language tracks and English subtitles
3) Battle Royale II (Director's Cut) with Japanese language and English subtitles
4) Battle Royale Bonus Content with Japanese language and English subtitles

So, no theatrical version of BR2. If you go for the single disc version of the first film, it only includes the Director's Cut version as well.
