I don't hate the SEC.

I hate people like you who are so convinced that the SEC is superior that you ignore any argument that doesn't fall down at the cult of the SEC in total blind worship.

Either Alabama or LSU already lost to an inferior team. So tell me why it can't happen again? Oh right, they are the SEC, so godlike that only other SEC teams have a shot.

*EDIT* And to clarify, I hate the blind fans of ALL conferences. SEC ones are just the most obnoxious at the moment because of recent SEC success. One day, when it switches to another conference, I will hate those people worse.

This is part of my fundamental problem with the system. My claim all year is not that Alabama and LSU don't kick ass, but that the SEC as a whole is down.

If you believe that premise, it's entirely possible that part of the reason they gave up so low of PPG is that the SEC teams they were facing weren't very good(offensively). This isn't to say that they don't have a good defense, but maybe not #1 all time level.

But college football is so insulated that there is no way to figure out how good a team really is. There have been unbelievably talented teams that just didn't put it together on the field. The best team clearly doesn't always win.

Making a championship game be a same-conference game makes the insulation problem even worse.

Usually they at least prove SEC superiority by destroying people in the championship game. This year, due to it being in-conference, you don't even have that.

For those of us who don't worship at the SEC-altar, this is _very_ unsatisfying, and is clearly why this was the worst rated championship ever.

I'll continue to be in awe of the kids that they're able to get out of the area (SEC), compared to the land mass the big 12 recruits from. Thats why we need a big old playoff system, I'd much rather B* about a team getting an easy road to the championship game then the total unknown we have now.

Iowa just can't keep their running backs. In 2010 Adam Robinson was kicked off the team and Jewel Hampton and Brandon Wegher left the team. This year true freshmen Mika’il McCall left the team after being suspended for the bowl game, and now sophomore Marcus Coker, the Big 10's second leading rusher who was also suspended for the bowl game is transferring as well. Iowa should be alright at running back, as they've got a commitment from the #5 running back in the class of 2012 and a couple other young backs, but it's still odd to see 5 running backs leave in a 13 month period.

It's not the worst rated championship game ever -- it's 3rd -- but it is very unsatisfying for most people, I agree with that. I also agree the SEC is down as a whole, but the teams we saw Monday did play a few good teams from other conferences -- Penn State, Oregon, and I believe West Virginia among them.

The Outback Bowl also had two top 5 defenses play each other (Michigan State and Georgia), and they each scored 30+, so your argument definitely holds water. Georgia also got killed by Boise State.

Hopefully things will change; it would've been great to see Oklahoma State or Stanford in the mix, but again, they have no one to blame but themselves since they lost a game or two.

As for your post where you said you hate people like me, you are wholly wrong about me: I am not convinced the SEC is superior this year. The past several years, however, I think they proved they were superior by beating non-conference opponents in bowl games and of course the BCS championship game. I grew up a Big 10 fan and still am one. As I have stated repeatedly (and which you repeatedly ignore), I am not a "SEC fan". I am a Georgia fan. Georgia just happens to be in the SEC. Believe me: you hate the SEC way more than I love it. I think it's sort of sad.

Associated Press article, citing in many sources such as this one:
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505245_1...rom-last-year/

Snippet: "Monday's game on ESPN earned a 14.0 rating, down 8 percent from last year. It's the third-lowest rating of the 14 BCS title games, beating only a 13.9 for Miami-Nebraska in 2002 and a 13.7 for Southern California-Oklahoma in 2005."

That was only lowly-rated, because it was a blowout by halftime.

55-19.

Thanks. I wonder if they revised the numbers. Every article I read yesterday said it got 13.8 and also said that it was the lowest bcs champ. game ever.

I remember that one. At the time just about everyone was talking that game up like it would be some epic game between two 12-0 teams. Having watched both of those teams all year I had a feeling USC was going to crush the Sooners. It was over by the 2nd quarter.

Another reason I remember it was the halftime "performance" by Ashlee Simpson. She literally got booed out of the stadium.

It's hard to believe that claim when the undisputed national champion has been an SEC team for the past 6-7 years in a row... and this is the first year during that span that both teams were an SEC team.

Wasn't this an espn only game too? I don't think last years was only on espn cable only surely hurts the numbers.

Not even sure why I bother responding to that Terjyn guy. He comes in once a week, says something completely false and inflammatory, fails to refute or acknowledge my posts, then comes back the next week to start the whole thing over again. lol

Yet I continue to fail by posting responses.

In other news: too early for 2012 preseason rankings? Not according to these guys! http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...?sct=cf_t11_a1

LSU is a ballsy pick at #1 considering their laughable performance the other night.

And here in south Alabama, an area where everyone and his brother had the game on; the major cable provider lost ESPN signal around half time. That's probably 100,000 less viewers right there. Thank God I have satellite!

I hope the major cable provider in Orlando can lose the signal at halftime in the Super Bowl so I'm not even tempted to watch an over-the-hill Madonna perform.

Undisputed? Really?

Things were FAR from undisputed in 2007 when there were a half a dozen teams who had two losses, just like LSU, and who had just as nice of a resume to be in the "title game."

2008 was also FAR from undisputed when Utah went undefeated and kicked the crap out of Alabama in their BCS game.

So, I dispute your claim of "undisputed" over the past 6 years that the SEC has the MNC.

2008 for sure way to many 1 lossers in week 15, but 2007 at least for me not so much.
