Don't get excited, it's only a limited edition with new packaging, it contains exactly the same disc from the Predator Ultimate Hunter Edition.

I might be able to think of some reasons why there would be a new version.

Go on, I'll bite. What would those reasons be?

For what its worth I wholeheartedly believe it will never happen and that this version is simply a repackaged UHE

So long as nobody minds too much and I hope that you do not, I will keep my reasons to myself on why I have that opinion.

Are you trying to say that you believe the up coming Australian limited edition digibook release is a new version, or just that you think Predator needs a 3rd version to be released on blu in general?

3rd version in general. I don't know anything about the Australian limited edition digibook, nor do I have means by a third party to discuss that release.

It's probably not, but we can hope. I have actually been quite happy with my 2008 version. It blows away the Ultimate DNR edition, that's for sure.

Did you not read my post from the previous page? It's NOT a new version, there's no probably about it.

Then it seems we are stuck with the 2008 version for now.

It would be great if it was a new transfer but unfortunately it's not. It's just amongst a range of titles that are getting released in new limited edition digibook packaging with a 2nd dvd disc included.

I got the 2008 edition (as I have the 2-disc DVD set for the bonus material) and am quite content.

I've seen both versions of this and they both are horrid. I saw an HD version on Encore or Starz and I remember it looking better than both of the blu rays!

I have the UHE and it looks great on my plasma.

I rented the 08 version back when I had a ps3 setup and recall not being impressed. I am not a blanket DNR flagwaver I just happen to think in this case the movie and its green visual effects especially are so enhanced by extra slickness over bleek grain of a dated made-for-TV transfer.

Won't be buying the re-release digibook though. Might think about getting fight club's jbhifi digibook though

I highly doubt it looked better. It may have appeared to look better due to a brighter picture, which broadcasts tend to do, but that artificial brightness is not welcome IMHO. You're right though that both versions are poor, but the 2008 version is indeed superior to the 2010 version. Besides, the DTS-HD MA 5.1 track is extremely well done and is identical on both releases so it makes sense to get the 2008 version especially if you have the 2 disc DVD, which contains all of the extras on the 2010 version anyway.

I agree. Every movie pre-2006 should get the Predator DNR treatment!

Perhaps we will get a 3rd transfer for the 25th Anniversary this year? That would be sweet!

It would be nice. From what I could gather for the 2010 version it received a new master and then was DNRed to death so a new master is not necessary, but a faithful transfer is. If Fox would just take that 2010 master and transfer it to BD with an AVC or VC-1 codec and then leave it alone I imagine that will be about the best the film can look on BD.

That's how I see it too. Other than that one scene where Dutch, Dillon and the General go over the plan, there's not really anything to complain about. The bolder colors in the rest of the movie make up for that scene. Plus, it's just funny to look at. So it actually adds entertainment value.
