My personal preference is Edward Norton. I don't think anyone can touch him. American History X may be the best performance I've ever seen. After him I like DeNiro, and a lot of people that most consider "character actors," like Hoffman, Buscemi, John C. Reilly, etc.

OMFG how stupid can i be, Edward Norton how can i forget him and AHX is my favourite movie there was a time when i didnt come out of my dvd player for like 2 weeks i watched it sooooooooooooo many times and even fight club was awesome

There has always been a debate on whether Olivier or Brando was the greatest actor. I give a slight advantage to Olivier on the stage (only because Brando did very little stage work, but his work in "Streecar" was considered a major breakthrough), and a BIG advantage to Brando for his film work. Brando inspired an entire generation of actors and changed screen acting forever, while the same thing can't be said of Olivier, as good as he was.

I agree. You can take Brando's performance in "Streetcar" and compare it to any modern performance. It is as refined as anything in the last 60 or more years.
