If your budget is $500 or less you probably wouldn't even be able to get any of the setups you mentioned in the first post, so it might be advisable to re-evaluate those to see if they truly fit your criteria.

For movies/TV it's not a good idea to get a sub with an 8" driver, no matter how many of them you buy. The additional quantity will likely increase your overall output (volume), but will do pretty much nothing to increase lower extension. The LFE channel thrives on deep bass, which is really not something an 8" driver is physically able to do.

The Rythmik FV12 is a very solid value, which could suit your needs. How big is your room? That's a pretty critical factor when deciding on a sub.
