Smile Aristocats and other Disney features on BD?

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but was wondering why Disney is not releasing the Aristrocats on Blu-Ray??? Since it has been re-Mastered, it would be perfect for Blu-Ray, just curious since they seem to be coming out with a lot of new movies and bringing back some older ones and only a select few are going Blu?? I would love to pick up all of them on Blu, what does everybody else think of this?

It may be an issue of if they they can recoup the costs to release. Of the older Disney movies, they know the big money makers will tranfer to Blu sales: such as Sleeping Beauty, Lion King, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, etc.

Disney and Lucas are masters at re-releasing movies people own previous formats of. Give them time it will be released, they have such a huge library they can keep that 7 year "Vault" concept and make money for decades to come. What I find funny though is you never see the older movies remastered and released. Perhaps some dont hold up over time like the cartoons do.

I would love to see the old classics in Blu like:
Escape to Witch Mountain
Return to Witch Mountain
Old Yeller
Cat From Outerspace
Apple Dumpling Gang (Don Knotts was pretty funny)

Let's just hope that when they do release old titles that were in the theaters in Widescreen, that they release them in Blu Widescreen. These Full Screen Disney releases are a ripoff.

A) Because they haven't mastered it in Blu yet (we're "lucky" it got a restoration at all), and
B) The only reason it's out at all is, they thought they'd have that Video Sequel to promote it with by the time it came out (ie., before John Lasseter shut down the chemical factory), not to mention,
C) The fact that they're even re-releasing the disk is secondary to their main goal, ie., "Why does Paris and Tokyo still gush over Marie the kitten, and 90% of North America never remembered the movie even existed?? "

(It's a pride thing, for them.)

Consider that '00 flood a "fixer" overreaction, following on the ritual public guilloti...er, pinkslipping of the earlier BVHV executive responsible for the $39.99 "Limited Editions".
When they first announced the Gold and Platinum lines, they officially wanted to wipe "Character artwork on disk" out of our memory.

It would have been nice if Disney had released some of their classics when the new DVD's, like The Jungle Book and the upcoming 101 Dalmatians, because it will most likely mean these will not be released for a long time.

The simple answer is Disney wants you to buy it on DVD now and later buy it again on Blu (as I will probably be doing). Disney movies are the only DVD movies I still buy

Their first Blu has to be a big deal, so they are picking a more popular movie (Sleeping Beauty).

they have not released the following AFAIK - that has recently been released/announced on DVD:
Jungle Book (extremely disappointed when bluray.com retract its news about jungle book coming to BD)
101 Dalmatians (March)
Aristocats (Feb - my order is shipping yesterday)

sleeping beauty would be the first on autumn 2008

The last time Disney released 101 Dalmatians to theaters -- I think it was Fall1991 -- Disney presented it theatrically in 1.33:1, masking off the sides of the frame so that theaters would have to show it in the correct 1.33:1 aspect ratio. This followed on the heels of the 1990 Fantasia re-release which did the same thing. Ditto the 1992 theatrical re-release of Pinocchio and the 1993 re-release of Snow White.

People are surprised to hear that Disney presented 101 Dalmatians in that fashion, largely because of the imdb which lists the OAR of Dalmatians as 1.75:1.

The subject of Disney aspect ratios for animation after 1959 is very muddy. I'd talk more, but have to run.

Loved that movie. The screaming banshee scared the shit out of me when I saw it the first time when I was a kid. The matte work was quite advanced for the time when you got to the leprechaun's cave.

Oh, and you also get to see a very, very young Sean Connery.

After watching the 1.75:1 "original theatrical aspect ratio" of The Aristocats I'd appreciate your elaboration on this subject when time permits. In past viewings I don't recall characters breaking the top of the frame quite so frequently (a la last fall's Platinum Jungle Book release)...perhaps it's just my age & progressing mental infirmity, but I suspect not.
