All kinds for all purposes. Browse here and you'll see some amazing deals on gently used items. I saw a pair of amps on that site a while back for $80K. A great deal considering they retailed for over $120K.

I saw some Genesis reference ones out there for a steal. $85K for the pair last week with a rating of 10/10 so the seller thinks they are as good as new.

Piker!
Saw a pair a magazine yesterday for $180,000!
They look like metal hourglasses in a stand. Weird!
McImtosh makes a pair for $90,000 also.

That was the used price of $85K. Audiogon is a great place for deals.

I really don't know what the 'most expensive' speakers are, but I have in my showroom the 'finest performing' speakers, irregardless of price, they are the Reval Ultima-2 Salon's at $ 21,999.00 a pair. Absolute Sound Magazine gave them the Product of the Year (When price is no object) and the Revel Ultima2 Salons won over all other speakers, even those priced much more. So, if you'd like to experience the best, drop by my store. Yes, they are powered by Mark Levinson #433 Amplifier [Jim - Audio Excellence - Ocala, FL]

Not the most expensive, aparently, but the quality of M&K monitors are the highest that I am aware of, although I don't know how they compare to other speakers mentioned in response to this thread. I'm not sure how the quality will be after the reformation of M&K, post Ken Kriesel (sp?) leaving to do his own Charlie and the Chocolate Factory thing, but they should still be really good. I would probably prefer getting hold of the older monitors before he left though, just to be sure, but that's just me.

VR11 are a cool $150,000. The review says $290,000, but the site says $150,000.

*shrug*

I was going to say, "who the f*ck would buy these overpriced speakers?!" But then I remembered watching this guy play poker in Vegas betting no less than 10 Gs a hand. Lots of money to be made...

I would not purchase any new M&K's now, my understanding is that they are cheap knockoffs. Just before the website going out, Kriesel posted a message warning consumers about the current state of M&K speakers.

The site has now just stated "under construction" for at least 6 months or more now.

But agreed, the older monitors are great. I use to have a set for my home theatre but changed it around a bit and now are using 2 of them for an audio only system.

In a realistic term, Kef makes some very nice speakers. You can also get a pair of Def Tech Mythos ST's. These should run you less than 5k.

...I'd say a 7.1 setup (if you even had a room that could fit them) w/these would set you back ~700-800k.

Yes, there were some very poor quality products being created in China with the M&K logo on them that obviously weren't extensively tested (or rather tested at all) as Ken would require all his products to be done, but there is a new website for the company that is now under direction of some of the people who were previously involved in the company, I just can't find the link right now because I'm on another computer and won't be able to get back to mine until Friday or the day after. The thing that worries me is that on this new site they are clearly displaying their relationship with the M&K in China (I believe it is for the Asian consumer, but I'm not entirely clear on this as I didn't thoroughly view the site) who may be the very ones who are making these faulty products in the first place.
I just hope Ken begins to create his excellent products again, this time without the disappointment of China trying to sell their knockoff versions of Ken's quality monitors.

Just to clarify, Ken Kriesel noted that there were a few M&K knock offs that came into the states from China, but that's it. There was an extensive authorized dealer network in the US, so there's a bunch of authorized gear still around that is perfectly fine. The only obvious drawback is the fact the warranty is now useless. I own a couple of M&K subs, and they are incredible.

M&K gear was nowhere near the most expensive on the market though. There is some pretty ridiculously expensive stuff out there.
