Aliens gave me nightmares...
But the last one was probably the Grudge.
On the other hand, orphanage was not scary, but was very good and thrilling.
I'm not into scary movies, but thrilling and suspenseful films are good.

My dad took me "bowling" as kid so I'm pretty desensitized. (bowling was code for Jaws, Aliens, and any other scary movie out in the 80's). The last movie to freak me out was The Ring. Only lasted for the film itself, but considering I don't even blink at movies now, that's saying something.

Was so Mom wouldn't know? My mother would not let me see Jaws. I rememeber crying, because she promised to take me, then reneged after asking acquaintances about it's appropriateness for kids.

Although the movie in all was pretty lame and unscary, white noise really freaked me out a little about static noise in electronics. This is the best reason for digital television. No more snowy channels.

While certainly creating a portrait and atmosphere of believability/reality is crucial to any successful horror film, how exactly are those two movies "believable" in any sense (i.e. we are talking about demonic possession and or Satan's spawn here... ).

"Sunshine" is not a horror film but a sci-fi-thriller.

The only reason i watched it was Kristen Bell, and even she could not save this waste of time.....

The original is solid but the remake is awful. Rent the original 2001 "Pulse" (aka "Kairo").

Side Note: I found "The Grudge" (and it's sequel) to be horrible and the original "Ju-On" did not fair much better.

Yep. I had REALLY bad nightmares after the first couple scary movies but like anything else, you watch them enough and it goes away. I think I was 10 and we still had to lie to my mom about what we were doing/seeing just so she wouldn't worry (how odd is that by they way...no I don't have kids). She has nightmares for weeks if I watch National Geographic and a snake is shown, so go figure.

I agree with the Grudge, but it didn't affect me as much as Event Horizon.

I'm more scared by the psychological ones vs. things jumping out at you ones. That said, The Shining (Kubrick version) and Silence of the Lambs top my list.

You know we've got that "Most Stupid line from Star Wars episode I-III". We ought to have one for "Showgirls" and put the entire script of the movie in the first post.

I love horror movies and The Exorcist is my favorite. It's the only movie that really disturbed/scared me throughout the whole movie. It didn't make me jump or whatever but it truly scared me. I'll often leave a movie playing while I'm trying to go to sleep but I'd never leave that one playing (even though I've seen it 10 to 15 times by now).

I've seen so many horror movies that most of the recent ones only have a scene or two that get to me. I guess I've been desensitized to a lot of the tactics horror movie use but occasionally a newer movie will get to me.

The Grudge has a couple of scenes that make me jump and overall, I'd say it's one of the few newer movies that gets to me throughout the movie. Just the sound in that one creeps me out.

The Descent has a couple of scenes that still make me jump even though I know the scene is coming.

Event Horizon has one scene that really got me, especially the few first times I saw it.

Going back several years, the first Friday the 13th really got me at the end.
