Wow. The OP who runs a business is mentioning a genuine concern. This is costing him $. All these wise-ass responses here...
I read on another site a very similar thing with BD movies through Netflix having the same cracks. Alot of people live in very cold environments and some (like us) have mailboxes outside. Metal, uninsulated unheated mailboxes.
If rental companies start having to pay for alot of replaced discs due to cracking from cold weather, it is gonna be an issue... I doubt Sony or whatever studio produces these discs is gonna replace them for free.

OP, I suggest mentioning it to BDA insiders on this forum.

PG comes to mind, he might be able to hook you up with the right folk.

Good luck, hope it is solved soon.

Thanks for your help and yes this is costing us a lot of money. The bottom line is that in the future we might not be able to provide PS3 game rentals. It takes us about 6 months to start making money with a PS3 game so if it breaks early we are losing income...

Also on which other site did you read a similar thing with Netflix? This would proove we aren't completely crazy, maybe just a little.

thanks!

Same issue with the hard casing?

As written earlier somebody wrote that Netflix members were having issues with Blu-Ray discs breaking in the way I posted. To my knowledge the technology is the same so issues should be the same for movies and games.

Regarding contacting Sony, I probably have to find a good contact, not a 1-800 information line. I'll look into it ASAP. Also I forgot yesterday to put game discs out yesterday and the temperature is kind of mild so I will do another test with hard cases ASAP.

thanks and please keep posting feedback!

I live in Sweden and have ordered 4 PS3 games and 20 something BD movies from the US so far. Those discs have been in the air, on the sea and over land in cold weather and I have not a single crack och scratch on any of them. I eaven recieved some of them that were laying loose in the cases, not a scratch or crack on them either. Could this be caused by anything else?

Have you called Sony DADC about this? This sounds like a manufacturing defect to me.

I did an informal survey on AVSF about Netflix-like movie rentals, and I from that the problems were occuring with HD DVDs. About 25% of people claimed to have had problems playing due to scratches. Only a 4% claimed to have problems with BDs.

Best Buy has offered to sell me a $5 warranty for the discs and have informed their cashiers to suggest it by saying they are seeing quite a few discs coming back to stores which are damaged.

Best Buy sure loves to sell warranties to people. On my laptop they wanted to sell me a $400 warranty on a $800 laptop.

yeah... i bought a cheap $20 cd player for camping, and they tried to sell me a $20 Warranty. The cashier had no idea why I was laughing at him.
