Hmm... if you watch the promo film, it looks like they're mucking with the film's color and editing to make it more "modern" - taking different scenes and making them B&W and keeping an effect coming at you or a character in color.

Not sure if they're doing that just for this promo reel or if it will be a part of the finished product - hope not.

Comin' at Ya! 3D Blu-ray

Has anyone seen the original in 3D? How was it? It is being re-released in RealD format.

Default I saw it in theaters when it was first released

The 3D was fine, but the it's so overdone. Everything is shoved at the camera in a "Look I'm in 3d; watch what I can do" way. I was working as a film critic for a local paper, and I remember that I when I saw it, I made the comment that "This film shoves everything at the camera, including a baby's rear end." If you like low budget spaghetti westerns, you will probably enjoy it. I am not a big fan of westerns, so it's not my type of film, but the 3D, for the most part, worked well. I have a post on here about all the films I saw during 3Ds second wave in the early 1980s. (Third wave if you count the early 70s, which was mostly soft-core pornography). I thought Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3d and Jaws 3D used the technology better, but then again I prefer sci fi and horror to westerns.

I remember seeing this back when I was a kid. If I remember correctly it was a corny western. I remember there was a fire sequence (saloon maybe) that I thought was cool. God It's been so many years.
I don't know it could be fun if you have a few drinks before hand.

So, definitely a gimmick movie? It may be cool for that reason only!

Yeah, but before Comin' in 1981, there was no third wave, not even at the theme parks--
The 80's craze was ALL in response to Comin's sudden renaissance, since (obviously) very few people had seen the underground "Stewardesses" second wave, and our beginning 80's trend of discovering the 50's was just starting to mythologize the "3-D flying saucers" of the 50's. About a good 2/3 of the audience were too young to have ever seen a 3-D movie, and wondered what all those stories of pop-out was about...Including the filmmakers, I would guess.

I wonder what happened to this?

Isnt it supposed to be one of the "classic" 3D movies?

Wiki shows no update past 2011, the Fangoria sponsored premier of the film at the Berlin Film Festival.

Bummer because I would definitely buy this - it looks entertaining and the field of depth is very much in your face.

Cool. I remember seeing this at the theater about 30 years ago.
Highly emphasizes 3D pop-out over strength of story/acting.

I think it will be part of the finished product as I dedinitely remember reading an interview with the filmmakers saying they were changing some things in it to make it fit more modern.

Too bad. I wanted to see the original version, as I never got to see that when it was first out in the theatres or ever.

They pulled a George Lucas.

Source?

After the recent announcement of another Tony Anthony title 'Get Mean', I figured Comin' At Ya! might be somewhere in the pipeline for a bluray release.

I remember seeing this in the theater, but I don't really recall too much about it. It was the start of a new slew of 3D movies at the local theater, and I remember taking them all in including Parasite, Friday the 13th Part III, Jaws 3-D, Spacehunter, Metalstorm, and Andy Warhol's Frankenstein.

We had one theater that catered to the 3D movies, and Saturday afternoon chop-chop movie marathons. I spent a lot of time there.
