Default Carnage - Polanski - March 20 - Review

Carnage Blu-ray

Carnage Blu-ray Review

Coming March 20 - Amazon pre-order

I loved this film, but then I suppose my profile pic is a hint about why

It's a simple little dark comedy, shot on one set and barely 80 mins long, but was probably the most entertaining film I saw last year. And Polanski knows how to cover a scene like few other people alive. It's flawlessly staged and photographed.

Good to know. Our local theater got this in last Friday, and I've been debating if I just want to wait for the Blu, since their sound system sucks (I don't think it's been updated since the '80s). I can't decide if that would be worse for a dialogue driven movie since you might not be able to understand everything. But I think I'll go see it, since it's over 2 months till it's out on Blu.

However,
[Show spoiler]I felt like the vomiting scene was a little unnecessary. Graphically showing it seemed to cheapen the movie for me. The entire film is witty, smart dialogue, and to add the visuals of her character throwing up felt like I was watching a Judd Apatow movie. It seemed to derail the film momentarily for me. I think just having the sound or hinting of her throwing up would have been more effective. Maybe I'm crazy though!

I disagree completely. And I don't know if you know this, but it is adapted from a play, in which that scene is present.

To say it is unnecessary is just wrong.

Excellent that you decided to see it in the theatre! Hopefully the Blu will have at least some interesting extras.

Where's Rosemary's Baby Blu, though?!

a feat considering so few people did - it barely did a two week play here in DC. according to imdb the budget was 25mil, and the combined tally of the US and foreign markets is just over 23 (US alone was $2,238,585 according to Box Office Mojo)

I never got to the theatre to see this, however being a huge Polanski fan, and a fan of all the cast I was thinking of a blind buy.

With me being a Polanski fan, will I enjoy this movie and is it worth a blind buy?

Thank you!

Hmm... Tough call. If you're a Polanski fan, then I'd imagine you'll like it. It's an impeccably filmed, exceptionally witty black comedy. Be aware that it's just four actors on one set for 80 mins. That said, it's as cinematic as Death and the Maiden - which is probably the best parallel in his work stylistically, as it's also a filmed stage play.

At $24, it's a bit tough to recommend it as a blind buy but it was one of my favorite films of the year and I'm definitely buying it.

It will be a blind buy for me if it goes down to $19.99. Otherwise, I will wait until it drops.

Yes, the vomiting scene is in the play and one of the play's highlights - absolutely hilarious - on film I don't know that it would work quite as well because one does need some distance from vomiting.

I was wondering earlier, how exactly it would be achieved in the play..if it's as realistic in the play, then I'm interested in knowing how they go about creating it!

Would have been better had, they kept the cast of the original Broadway production James Gandalifini, Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, and Marcia Gay Harden. Or the original West End cast that included Ralph Fiennes and Janet Mcteer or even better mix matched the two original casts.

The movie is ok, but no where near as good as the show, I had the pleasure of seeing it at the Ahmensen theatre here in L.A. with the original Broadway cast last year. Ill buy this eventually, once i find it for a decent price used, so that way my money is not going to finacially support a child pornographer and pedophile who refuses to come to justice. I wont deny he the fact that he is a very talented story teller, but he is no better than any one else, and needs to face his sentence just like any other criminal, no matter how talented he is, who he is friends with or what hardships he has had to endure in his life. None of that is any excuse to get a 13 year old girl drunk and drugged up to take graphic pornographic photos, and have sex with her. And just cause as an adult she has said she forgives him doesnt change the fact that he is a monster and needs to pay for his crime. The fact that he refuses to is a slap in the face to any woman who has ever been a victim of a sex offender.

I'm betting that I don't get an e-mail telling me that I'm getting the $4 refunded and that I have to call later this week to explain the pre order guarantee to 4 different people before someone tells me they'll refund the money as a one time exception.

Mine shipped at the original high price. I called their 800 number just now and spoke to a nitwit Amazon operator who actually tried to tell me they DON'T have a pre-order low price guarantee. He said that only some of their items have this guarantee and that the $23.99 I was charged for this and the $24.99 I was charged for Dragon Tattoo were correct. I said this was nonsense, but he didn't believe me. I had to remind him he was wrong multiple times, and finally demand a $9 store credit for being overcharged for the two movies, which both should have been $19.99. I got it, but it took some pushing.

Amazon is getting more and more difficult to deal with. Part of that is the fact that I rarely reach call centers in the US anymore. The operator sort of spoke English but clearly wasn't fluent enough to converse with me, he was using basic phrases and dialogue he had been taught. I don't blame him, he was speaking in a foreign language. I blame Amazon for being too cheap to hire fluent English speakers.

And now the USPS tracking number from Amazon shows that the package has been delivered at my address. Only it hasn't. I called and had to hang up as politely as possible on four consecutive operators who clearly didn't speak fluent English before I got someone I could talk to who said she'll check with the Post Office. No idea what that means for when I'll receive this.

Aargh. Amazon is going downhill.
