I find it interesting to see how the numbers will go in the following weeks, especially with all the "infrastructure" slowly moving towards Blu-ray.

I'm more concerned about the longer term situation.

Cool so now we will be able to easily figure out actual sales for the rest of the titles.

True, but Id rather keep on seeing the 80+ weeks.

However, its safe to say that the BOGO was a failure if the best they can get is 3 to 1.

I would not say 500k is a huge first week.

I think these are unit sales, not dollar sales.

Anyway, you have to laugh if people are now considering a 25% market share a decent result for HD DVD.

Let's see what HMM reveal on Friday.

Those on the red team will take any sort of good news and put a spin on it as we have seen. Nobody on our blu team see's HD DVD as a threat anymore. Done, Finished, Over.

I just would have expected at least over 1 million for a movie that made $90 million in theaters.

Well, if the Game Plan number is real this is how the top 10 works out:

Saw IV 13,744
Game Plan 9,735
3.10 To Yuma 6,626
PotC: Worlds End 4,996
Good Luck Chuck 4,890
300 4,743
PE 4,465
Ratatouille 3,578
War 3,168
Superbad 3,110

Top 10 total = 59,055 (then you have to add in catalogue sales of course).

I'm assuming the Game Plan number is an actual Nielsen number as it's quite precise. Estimates are usually rounded to a nice quotable number. If that's correct then whole market volume is going to be in the region of 100k for the top 10.

There is a reason they say that the 1st quarter is the slowest. I think if they wanted to get a million or more in week one, they should have held it off until spring when things should pick up a little. Summer and the holiday season should be the biggest periods.

You will be pleased to know that, according to The Numbers, it did sell 1.16 million units for a gross revenue of approx. $20 million.

http://www.the-numbers.com/interacti...hp?newsID=3176

The 499,977 number (Blu-ray + WS DVD + other DVD) will be the actual Nielsen number (I'm pretty certain). The 1.16 million is what The Numbers estimate based on studio estimates and other market data.

This suggests Nielsen report approx. 50% of the DVD market. However, IMO, Nielsen cover a larger share of the HDM market (60%+) mainly because Wal-Mart do not have as large a share of the HDM market as they do in the DVD market. Wal-Mart do not report to Nielsen and it's estimated their DVD sales alone account for approx. 40% of the market.

Comedies, just don't sell as many DVDs when compared to action or sci fi movies.

Correct.

The Game Plan, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had a huge first week of DVD sales. There were 9,735 Blue Ray DVD sales, 262,732 wide screen DVD sales and 227,510 other DVD sales.

If the red ants achieve anything 20% or higher, it will be a HUGE WIN for them, and then they will say they are gaining "momentum".

Yeah, momentum right into the trash can!
