slim jim has some dude in a wrestling pic. hes some immature kid who whines about only 10 episodes the next season. they are actually translating 20-23 episodes in sword of storms book.

yes 2 seasons in the translation of the 2nd book.

clash of kings should be the last one because its the most expensive HBO show to make. and probably 2 seasons to translate that into episodes.

the other books ive heard arent on the par with the first 3 books. at all

Book two is clash of kings and its season 2 of the show. Book three is storm of swords and it is encompassing seasons 3&4.

From what I've read the budget for the whole season was close to $60 mil but the tax incentives/rebates from filming in Northern Ireland probably brought it down to just under $50 mil (unless that was already factored in). The pilot is usually the most expensive episode because it absorbs the initial development and building costs, so let's say roughly $10 mil for that and $40 mil for the remaining 9. It compares favourably with Boardwalk Empire, which had an $18 mil pilot (with rumours that it would be as high as $50 mil!) and Rome had $100 mil+ to play with for its first season.

If the ratings hold up and is still as popular as it is right now I don't see why they would cut it short.

Not a chance it ends there. This show will go until the very last book.

Having read the books I can say there is no way to end the show with storm of swords without seriously altering the story from the beginning which they haven't. There are lots of story lines that are far from resolved by the end of that book. The only way it ends there is if the series is canceled which I dont see happening.

Is this show worth a blind buy? $35 isn't too shabby. Am thinking of picking it up as it has a lot of excellent reviews.

yes, just go for it and don't try to learn anything else about it or the second season until you'd watched it to avoid spoilers.

Picked my copy up at Walmart last night. It came with an exclusive disc called "Houses of the Seven Kingdoms". The disc came in what I can only describe as the skinniest bluray case I've ever seen.

I just picked this up as well, it is a blind buy for me but I am pretty sure I am going to love this series, and Walmart even matched Best Buy at $34.96

I just got back from Best Buy myself. They had 1 copy of the Stark cover and 3 copies of the Targaryen cover. This was 30 mins. after opening, so if you want one of these, it's probably best not to wait.

Has anyone received an email confirmation that selected "in store" pickup for best buy yet?

Just picked mine up. As you can see it's the same set as the one pictured previously just with a different slip cover. So, owners of the Best Buy exclusive still get that iconic image of Ned on the Iron Throne on their sets. Slip cover has a nice texture to it, not smooth, although only the logo text is embossed. Key-chain bonus is much nicer than I originally expected.

My Best Buy had about 20 copies of each cover.

I received an email yesterday telling me that it would be ready for pickup today. I got another email about 20 minutes after I picked it up confirming that the order was completed.
