Your speakers would be your walls, floor, ceiling and will need 24 seperates (amps) for each channel.

22.2 is a bit on the ridiculous side for a home application. They might as well pay someone to kick your @ss during fight scenes, so they're more convincing.

I don't see a practical use for 24 speakers in a home theater setting. Those kind of things would be limited to professional type applications.
I don't plan on going past 5.1 for quite some time let alone 7.1.

Well how many people have actually upgraded to 5.1 sound since DVD was introduced? And even bigger question is how many people have their speaker array arranged properly? I have been to few peoples homes where all five fullrange speakers were arranged around the TV in the front of the room.

7.1 is pushing it and not saying that there are not benefits going beyond that but it just becomes impratical. I only recommend a 7.1 setup if the room shape and environment support it. 7.1 makes sense in rooms that are 300 sq ft or larger. Smaller than that you start dealing with a smaller soundfield area that I just don't think you get as much bang for your buck. Not saying no one should do it, but I would consider upgrading speakers before adding more in small soundfield environment.

If you are installing in an extremely large area then setups beyond 7.1 start making more sense.
