Different strokes, I guess. But strong disagreement from me.
Yeah, I'm not crazy about the TT cover either but...

A) The DVD cover is terrible and the original posters aren't a lot better. I usually have strong 'when in doubt fall back on the original art' tendencies but not in this case.

B) The image they stylized is pretty iconic. It fell flat with me but I would think people more familiar with the film than I am would respond pretty favorably.

I don't think it's that bad, but not that great, either. I wish they could have used this:

Wow...you know some pretty talented 10 year olds! I thought it was kinda sassy.

On the other hand, what they did for Désirée would make the ghost of Rembrandt drool:

...especially when compared to the original poster:

Since the movies TT is releasing are all so wildly different, I'm actually diggin' the creative mash-up in their cover treatments. I mean, I never know what to expect each month, which is a good thing.

FYI: The back page of the 8-page insert booklet is always the original poster art for the movie, which you can just flip over for display inside the case. I find that neat for side-by-side comparison with the cover art redux on the disc label.

I hope we won't start some sort of massive debate over a blu-ray cover. Some people won't like the covers of some TT releases, that's a given. What's important is the movie inside - which we wouldn't get without TT. I'd like to to think lovers of classic films go beyond the whole shallow digibook/steelbook/slipcover mentality. Most of the time, what you'll be seeing on your shelf is the thin edge of the blu-ray case which simply says "Bell, Book and Candle", not the front of the case.

Again, I personally like the clean and stylish covers TT is doing for these classics. Minimalist but very expressive. Some of the original movie covers look very poor. But obviously if it bothers someone that much they can photoshop the DVD cover, print it in color and slip it into the case instead.

By the way ROclockCK, you keep referring to Olive Films as a Paramount subsidiary. They release a lot of Paramount's stuff, but I can't see any indication that they actually are a subsidiary on their site. Are you being sarcastic or serious?

Well, serious enough. I don't know if "subsidiary" would be the correct business term for Olive Films' relationship with Paramount, but the label is releasing Paramount vault titles exclusively. At very least, they have some kind of long term deal in place with the studio.

I was about to write the exact same thing. The cover art to Bell, Book, and Candle would make a cool poster.

I am really liking Twilight Times's cover art. Mysterious Island, Swamp Water, Demetrius and the Gladiators, Bite the Bullet, and now these. All top notch. Even what I think is their most minimalist cover to date, the picture of Patricia Gozzi on what is my favorite Twilight Time film so far - Rapture - is well done. I am actually enjoying seeing their designs every month.

My Fright Night magnet, which has perched untouched on my fridge door for two months, is falling apart. It has begun peeling from the bottom. It is the only SAE magnet doing this.

I find it ironic considering so much hoopla was made over something so cheap and poorly made. Cool, but cheap.

Time to find my glue.

Upright...but it is in SUNLIGHT!!!

[Show spoiler]Naw, it's actually in a windowless kitchen.

Disclaimer: No stakes, crosses, or holy water were used prior to the making of this announcement. It's just a cheapo magnet.

I know this question wasn't meant for me, but I can tell you that when I asked about "One Million Years B.C.", TT responded with "We'd love it...". Then somebody else commented that it's slated to be released in the not too distant future, to which TT replied that they were glad to see Hammer finally getting their due.

Hmmm.

I don't know if you should have posted this.
could lead to a significant uptick in admissions to local mental health hospitals.
(so far mine looks good; also on a refrigerator; go figure)
perhaps I should remove it and encase it in plastic and put it in my safety deposit box.

This could be an indirect clue Page14. So far, Hammer movies have been almost totally MIA from Region A - not even those venerable Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing horror movies which Warners has dibs on and have re-released multiple times on DVD. Fox also had a run with Hammer movies in the mid-to-late 60s, including one classic and continuing rarity Five Million Years to Earth (aka Quatermass and the Pit).

So "Hmmm" indeed...the *wildcard* here is the ambitious Hammer Restoration Project, involving (spearheaded by?) StudioCanal. What this probably means is that a bunch of those Fox/Hammer horror titles will finally get out there...just not via Fox. However, there were at least 2 Hammer/Seven Arts titles starring Bette Davis that I think Fox still holds exclusive North American video rights to, The Nanny and The Anniversary. If so, then one or both could be in TT's cross-hairs.

Well, we can hope...

I like both cover arts.

I wasn't going to buy any of these April releases but I've done some research and now I may buy both. Thank God other studios aren't releasing much of interest (to me) or I couldn't afford it.

I have one question for people who know these movies (I have seen neither) and I hope someone is kind enough to answer: Who would you say is the protagonist? Stewart or Novak in "Bell book and candle", and Brando or Simmons in "Desiree"?
Meaning, whose viewpoint takes the movie? Who has more screen-time, who does the movie introduce first, and who does end with? Who is more proactive? (typical pointers of a protagonist character).

Thanks!

Stewart is clearly the main character in Bell.., but Novak's character is very prominent--almost equal.
the movie is a
[Show spoiler]comedy-romance.

Thank you for the wonderful link. I didn't see any mention of the "One Million Years B.C." film, but it sounds very promising for any films they *are* restoring. Love all the new special features they're working on for these films too! I hope other studios take notice and follow suit.
