I beleive its also safe to say that BD has sold over 1 million discs this year.
So the approximate numbers this year so far then:
January Week 1 - 299,386
January Week 2 - 321,921
January Week 3 - 199,951
January Week 4 - 177,325
February Week 1 - 147,180

4 weeks of January: 998,583
Total YTD: 1,145,763

Great start.

I think last year the first 5 weeks was around 275k so more than a 400% increase, there is a chart somewhere with the weekly numbers through March for last year which I found a few weeks ago but cant find it now.

Here is that graph...

Seems like it was about 235,000, so yes, 2008 is about 4.8 ! times the 2007 quantity . If not for the stupid 55% drop from week 2 to week 5 I'd be really happy.
I wish everybody [US] on this forum a fat IRS tax refund check. Spend it wisely.. (meaning buy more Blu-Ray disks)

Not exactly the one I was looking for, it looked like it was done in something like excel.

However this works as well.

It seems that since the WB announcement HDDVD is selling about the same as BD did last year.

Best Buy with a BOGO, I will gladly take a 3 to 1 advantage. Just have to keep it at 3 to 1 or higher.

HD DVD jumped 33% to generate 51,878 in unit sales. BD fell about 17% to 147,180 units sold.

It's not clear to me why there was that shift.
Three words: Best. Buy. BOGO (or is it two words, as in "BestBuy. Bogo"? )

She calls herself a journalist?

I can do that.

Code:

Week BD HD DVD
01/06 301 162
01/13 322 57
01/20 200 41
01/27 177 39
02/03 147 52
Figures in thousands. There's not much accuracy there because we aren't given decimals.

Did we have a BOGO as well because a lot of our titles are old. It's interesting to note not a single Warner title showed up under HD DVD, were none including in their BOGO?

I suspect that this occurred as much because of the recent price drop--especially on amazon.

BTW, I've been--finally--watching my copy in the past week, an episode or two a night. It is remarkable, to say the least. Those who haven't bought it ought to consider buying now with that price drop.

Are my posts on your "Make invisible" list?
Amazing, the only difference we have is just 1.5K on the 1st week...

Of course not, I guess I just got blindsided by the big Nielsen graph below.

Yeah. It all depends if you think 65:35 is 65.5:34.5 or what. But we're definitely in the ballpark.

I don't think the price drop on Planet Earth occurred until this week. It has been sitting relatively high on Amazon ever since the Warner announcement. Since it is one of the "must have" titles, it could be a lot of new owners.

I wonder if TF made the overall top 10 for them...especially if disc sales were indeed 75:25
