I see plenty who feel the same way, and I see others who don't. But Taylor has proven he's a great actor, just look at Friday Night Lights. He was incredible in the show, and my favorite character in the series, other than Kyle Chandler as the coach. He has acting skills, and I thought he brought that in John Carter.

But that's the general consensus of the movie in general. Either you love it or hate it. So that I think plays a big part in if people like him or not. And again, I point the the fact that there have been movies with leads who weren't that well known that did great, and they're acting wasn't great either. Go back and watch the original Star Wars, you'll see the acting isn't great, but it didn't make the movie any less of a hit.

Agreed completely.
Indeed, he IS John Carter, Jim Morris, one of the producers said that they saw in Riggins and him a broken quality, there is something broken. Plus Stanton is a huge fan of Friday Night Lights and as everyone, he noticed him on it.

Saw this for a second time today with the gf. She was bored and It seem average to me again. 5/10. Man but there was only 12 people in the biggest theatre. Disney better be worried.

They shot themselves in the foot as it is. They've been betting against it for a while, barely trying to help it. It's sad.

They totally screwed this movie with the marketing i guess. It also seems to be a bit marmite atm. Its a shame, cause if it did take off, the other sequels that were planned for the books would have got the greenlight.

I think the only other option of redemption is late word of mouth, and a good launch on Blu-ray and DVD to warrant a sequel.

Don't forget the over seas numbers. That's a big part of it as well. That's how we've gotten three Narnia films so far.

But I agree, Disney screwed it with the marketing. This movie didn't have a chance. Word of mouth is the only thing that can save it now.

Good point Walt, the overseas markets have saved films before. I hope this is one of those times.

I gotta say though, a little ridiculous that they're basing off their numbers from noon...I mean, really? Most theaters open around 9 or 10...That gives them a chance to have only done one show so far. Jumping the gun, it seems.

Given the budget being similar to Tron (?) and that still being speculated when exactly a sequel will start, some citing 2014 at the earliest, this could go the same way AND you got to remember they are both from Disney too.

I quite enjoyed Tron but somehow Disney is managing to screw up its big properties that are originally made for some reason. Avengers will do well, but because of the work Marvel put in. PoTC will do will cause of it being an established and well liked brand.

BUT for some reason, Disney seems to screw over their original big budget live action movies

The new studio head is the problem. He was the head of ABC Family before he got this job, and he doesn't know what he's doing. He somehow convinced Disney that he could make Tron the next Avatar, and he could make it a huge cultural success across the board, so they made games, action figures, books, apparel, and all sorts of things. They spent so much on it, the movie ended up being a minimal success because it didn't do the numbers that Ross thought it would. Look at the marketing under him since he got in: Prince of Persia, Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Brave, Cars 2 (arguable since many didn't like it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as the marketing made it look) and the over promotion of Tron: Legacy. He doesn't understand what he's doing. He's continually shooting their movies in the foot out the gate. The only reason The Avengers is doing so well is because it's being done in house at Marvel. It's a sad, sad state over at Disney Studios right now...

I hope to see it tonight. The last trailer did it for me. The best trailer for the otherwise poor marketing.

We can only hope it picks up steam as more people recommend it and i agree with Walt, this new guy seems to want to prove he can do better but in his quest to prove he's better, he's actually doing a worse job.

Where the hell do they hire these fat balding ego driven losers? (not actually sure he's fat ) They seem to also end up in state owned banks and then run them into the ground.

The funny thing is, he's a nice enough guy. He really does want to do a good job. He's just not doing one. I like the guy enough, he just doesn't get marketing very well.

And yeah, Chaotic is right, TinTin is a great example. The Narnia films as well. Quite a few movies got sequels thanks to the international numbers. Not all though, as he pointed out about Golden Compass.

Sometimes being nice enough just doesn't cut it when you are screwing up that bad. The most you can hope for is a polite way of being told to go with a golden handshake.

Tintin has a shot at a sequel, but we're definitely looking at 2014-15 at the earliest since Peter Jackson has the Hobbit.

Golden Compass should've had its two sequels made. The first movie though is an abridged version of the book was visually fantastic.

Problem is so many times they try to start a franchise and how many times we don't get a sequel because the first movie flopped or because the studio doesn't think it's worthwhile. And I have a feeling that John Carter is going to go the same way, not only because of the mediocre box office numbers, but also it doesn't have the power to be a studio franchise. I thought Prince of Persia was going to be the next thing for Disney. No! Even Tron is questionable and that made a decent amount of money. Pirates was lightning in the bottle for Disney and epic live action.

Don't put too much into the article, we've seen how much these guys get it wrong. The movie won't be making anywhere near that loss, in fact it will be much closer to break even and most likely IMO in profit by the end of its cinema run worldwide.

It'll pull in even more bank on home theatrical release. I just think these guys are trying to get some hit by going against the grain and who can blame them, when they get paid per hit. The more absurd the story, the more read
