So what can be done about the Blue disc being framed incorrectly? Are they going to somehow fix it and release a proper version? Man am I glad that I searched this thread for "Three Colors." I would have never known there were any issues. It has been about 2 weeks since the subject was broached so I was wondering if there has been any additional comment on this by Criterion?

I remember back when Palisades Tartan released The Vengeance Trilogy and Oldboy only had the 5.1 track even though the 7.1 was advertised. It took FOREVER but they did send out replacement discs that included the 7.1 track. I am very disappointed to read about all these problems. I am just about to watch (discs in transit) the Three Colors films on DVD via my local library. Glad I didn't splurge $50 I don't have on this Criterion blu ray set. Since I am not a giant stickler for extras the UK of Carlos definitely replaces the Criterion release on my wishlist based on $ saved and headache averted.

According to a post on Mubi, Criterion somehow came to the conclusion that their framing was correct and ALL other framings of the film on laserdisc, and DVD in all regions was incorrect. No other copy of the film has such low framing, nor does ANY other copy have microphones dipping into view.

They could solve the matter pretty quickly by contacting Idziak, the DP, and having him confirm or deny the framing, but they are blowing smoke over this issue and I feel that a fix will never happen. We are stuck with a mis-framed version of a great film.

I know what you mean, however, not all studios have proven their ability to handle many of these titles, including the ones already released. I have one word for you: SPARTACUS.

I think that's the reason Suspicion

Also, with the announcement of the BFI Cassavetes Collection, any bets as to how long it'll be before Criterion re-issues their 5 film box (since its the 5 same films)?
You are correct sir, the Hayes Code didn't allow for crime to go unpunished. There's countless examples of it.

• Isolated music track (or inclusion of CD edition of the OOP limited edition vinyl soundtrack complete with banjo and piano versions of "If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out")
• Inclusion of the novel (akin to the original Short Cuts w/short story collection) or the stage adaptation
• Postcard reproductions of Maude's paintings, The Rape of Rome and Rainbow With Egg Underneath And An Elephant
French re-make and/or Yugoslavian remake
• Video intro from Justin Bieber assuring purchasers he will not appear in a remake.
• Excerpts from one of the stage productions (such as this recent one or the one where the actress who originally played Sunshine played Maude)
• Port of Paramount's original edition special features: Chapter breaks and menus

I'd add more, but I think my meds are kicking in and I'm returning from my delirious fog.
You must be smonking some El Zumos you found in the giant vacuum. However, I really want this to happen too.

I own all 3, and The Seventh Seal is my favourite. It's one of the best looking B&W BDs out there, and it's probably the most well-rounded film out of the 3. There are some fantastic black comedy moments, and Gunnar Bjornstrand just steals the show as Jons.

I also thought Max Von Sydow was kinda hot back in the day.

While we wait, here is the updated list.

Most Requested Criterion Titles (cumulative):

Badlands (8 votes)
La Dolce Vita (6)
La Strada (5)
Roshomon (5)
The Virgin Spring (5)
Bicycle Thieves (5)
Persona (5)
Le Samourai (5)
The Cranes are Flying (4)
The Fountain (4)
Trouble in Paradise (4)
Z (4)
In the Mood for Love (4)
Touch of Evil (4)
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (4)
Throne of Blood (4)

There's many more with 3 or less but we have over 500 requests and it goes on forever. If you want to see the whole sheet I can arrange to share the doc with ya.

Thanks to those submitting requests. I kind of treat this as if it were "Criterion's Inbox". One would never send them 5 emails in 30 seconds asking for WEEKEND but they may send a request every 2 weeks or so.

Ugh, Badlands and The Fountain? Please.

I'd buy the other titles, although Bicycle Thieves would be a lower priority as it didn't have much of a rewatchability factor for me.

Also, I've been meaning to ask this, but how is Criterion even able to get Badlands? I thought Warner didn't like to share their films out with anyone. I honestly can't think of any WB title in the CC collection both in or out of print.

Edit: I just realise that I'm probably looking like a bit of a hypocrite, but I'm not. With all the complaining people have been doing about what titles Criterion releases, it's kinda interesting how stuff like Badlands and The Fountain are top choices, while the ones people have been complaining about Criterion not releasing, such as Le Samourai, aren't even showing up on the topic choice list.

I will say that this list is better than the one posted below from the Wishlist forum though, as many of those appear to have been generated by the Facebook crowd.

-Eating Raoul (New Years drawing)
-Quadrophenia

I see. But all I get from that link is a form submission for one title. Wouldn't it be better to merge these ‘‘semi’’-official wish list threads so there is only one to relate to? If everyone starts their own it is not really authoritative enough for Criterion to take this as any kind of valuable input, nor an accurate reflection of what their customers would like to see.

You can submit as many times as you like and are not restricted to upgrades.

The way the list is set up, you could submit the same film many times. However, not seeing Le Samourai near the top of the list is surprising. I wonder if it is being submitted with multiple spellings. I'd bet there are a few Le Samurai on the list.

But Shell is able to go through and compile that into a single entry, once you look at spellings.

I just think it's interesting how so many people are quick to call what Criterion has been releasing lately "trashy and/or too popular/mainstream," yet want stuff like Badlands and The Fountain. If Criterion ends up releasing these titles, good for them, I won't buy them right away, but those who complain when something like Anatomy of a Murder, Harold and Maude, or Being John Malkovich comes out, end up looking like a bunch of hypocrites.

I won't be too upset if Criterion does indeed release those titles, I may even buy them, but I still think that they're similar to the types of films people in this thread constantly complain about, since they are "popular, and far more mainstream" than other titles.

Two questions: why is The Fountain on this list? It's already available on blu-ray.
Why are people against Badlands? It's a good film and Malick is obviously a good fit in the collection.

It's not that I'm against the film, it's just that I don't particularly care for it as much as another title, or care for Malick much in general, for that matter.

I find that it's probably one of the most mainstream films Malick has to offer, and thus I'm pointing out the hypocricy of the people in this thread who complain about Being John Malkovich, Shallow Grave, and any other "titles that they think another company could do a better job at." Turnabout's fair play and all.

Good catch. There were some spelling issues. The drawback to open submissions is people choose to enter titles differently. (A big validation drop list would never work though!).

List has been updated.
