I think I would edit your post though, language dude!!(Not that I dont have a potty mouth)

Troll or not, I think there are titles not worthy of the blu-ray logo as the PQ is horrible and we all know where they come from. But for those few bad ones, Others are awesome, Get Cars or Ratatouille and see if you feel the same way. Fantastic Four ROSS is another good clear example. Watch those on a 1080p TV and then tell us what you think

Can you post information about your setup? A/V processor, speakers, display? I'm interested in what is causing your Blu-ray experience to be not good enough.

Edit: What sound reason is there for Blu-ray content to come down in price?

Thier cheap, they don't want to spend $25 on a movie.

BUT what about when movies do come down in price & then your end up double dipping & will probly end-up costing more then $25

Sure.

Brand new Pioneer PDP-LX508G
Panasonic HiDef Cable box (not much choice in Japan)
New PS3 40GB (2007 edition with the quiet fan etc)

Perhaps I should clarify as people think I'm a troll when genuinely I just got this stuff yesterday.

I really really like the quality, it's fantastic. I guess I'm not enough of an aficionado though to pay the premium for the media. Now maybe it's cos it's such a ripoff buying it here is Japan (which is ironic as it was invented here) so maybe the solution for me is to stock in New York everytime I go there.

Did not mean to rattle anyone's cages, just thought they can now make this stuff a lot cheaper.

You can always rent online from Netflix or go to Blockbuster. Renting is cheaper than buying. Buying used is another option.

Can't access that stuff from Japan.

Just checked the prices on the specials page for US customers and they're about half the price here. Well that would explain the response then. I find it bizarre that they make the blurays so damn expensive in Japan but much much cheaper in the US...

Yes then, many people in the UK buy BD's from Amazon.com & have them shipped. But sometime they get kicked is the ass by Customs taxes, so to save $$ you order more then 1 movie at a time.

Hmm, if you were so concerned about the price, why didn't you check to see what the prices are for the movies before buying a player/movies. You could have just checked a few demos in various stores to see what kind of quality to expect. It seems kind of backwards to me especially since you now plan to wait before buying more. If you had waited in the first place, you probably would have paid less for the player as well.

exactly what I was thinking.

glad to here that you found some cheaper stuff on amazon.com though

new release dvds are still commonly over $20 up here in canada though, so paying $25 for a blu isn't too bad at all.

case in point

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...est%5Fcookie=1

http://www.amazon.com/Across-Universe-Blu-ray-Evan-Rachel/dp/B000ZLFALS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1202694802&sr=8-3

less than $2 difference between across the universe on dvd to Blu

Its new technology and "we" pay the price for R&D, the companies need to make money to stay in business, not to mention everyone wants a % from the sale of a disc. The price will drop, it always does. Look at DVD's I have seen then in the supermarket for $2.99. Does anyone remember what a movie cost on VHS when they first hit? I remember them being $79.99 for hot titles, now you can't give them away.

How much are 8 tracks now?

What pokerface said!
I paid BUCKS for movies on VHS, back when $1.00 was worth something.
Then I paid long dollars for DVDs when they were first appearing - $1.00 still did something then too!

$24.99 - $29.99 for a BD?
6x the resolution?
$5.00 - $10.00 more than the DVD version?

Yeah, when I can afford it, I'll go pick one up!
*Note* I will still root through the DVD returns/bargain bin and drop $5.99 for a DVD.
I will not buy a DVD for $20.00!

YMMV.

I bought a new lotus exige*, but I never take it out of the garage, because I hate the cost of premium gas.

But seriously, needs work on subtlety.

Two of the three films you purchased are older, catalog titles. Check out some more stuff that's a year or two old, then get back to us. Might change your tune about dishing out $25 for your home entertainment.

I think that the idea that people have that the price should go down all of a sudden is pretty silly.

For one thing, if you're looking at the *retail* price of BluRay discs, then the only fair measure is to look at the retail price of DVDs. If you go into WalMart/BestBuy the week that a movie is released, the DVD will generally be 17.99, and the BR version 24.99. 7 dollars really isn't that much more to pay. Granted, this is not always the case. Sometimes you can get DVDs for like 5 bucks, and some BR movies will cost 35 if you buy them at retail. But DVD has been out for eternity, and most of the really cheap movies are essentially just being liquidated because they have been re-released with 'Collectors Edition' versions or some similar scam.

BR is not at all ovepriced for what you get out of it. The price is fine, *especially* if you buy on the internet and take advantage of the sales that are constantly available.

Incidentally, it is really, really poor form to call someone a troll just because their viewpoint isn't one of complete fanboyism. Lots of people are going to feel like BR is too expensive. Instead of just swearing at them and acting like an immature juvenile, the best thing we can do is explain why BR A)isn't that much more than DVD and B)is worth the additional cost.

I will say, you're kidding yourself if you think that you really have a choice here. The studios will simply phase out DVD as soon as they possibly can, leaving you no choice but to buy BluRay. Everyone acts like the consumer has some huge power and say in things, but regardless of how much we WANT this to be the case, this is not actually how it works.
