Ironically, LinkedIn is the only social media site I do see value in and use fairly regularly. I work for a technology company with a high roll-on, roll-over, and roll-off of contractors from around the world, and it's been a handy way to stay in touch with those folks, who too often in the past got lost from my network of contacts after only a couple of interim gigs.

I pretty much hate Twitter for what its 142 character limit has done to the quality of modern communications. And Facebook is just an identity nightmare waiting to happen.

Perhaps it is because I am getting a little older, but I do not belong to Facebook or Twitter. I can barely find time to post a few words here now and then. At least on Blu-ray.com I can learn a great deal about films and the Blu-rays, so the information it very valuable. I do not always express my sincere thanks as often as I should, but I have gained a wealth of knowledge about new releases from all of you. Soooooooo..... Thanks !!!

I have to agree, I work for a consulting/engineering company and it's the best way to keep track of industry specialist and contractors.

I wonder when TT is going to announce more upcoming titles, I'm really interested it what's coming up.

They're already committed through June (Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Big Heat, The Wayward Bus, and As Good as it Gets). That 3 month announcement window is about par for all the niche labels, including Criterion.

The only other TT title that I've heard has been guaranteed a slot sometime in 2012 is Major Dundee, with some rumblings that Five Fingers might show up too. The rest is just "tea leaves"...probably depending on what other titles sell out this year, and how soon. For example, I have a feeling that Mysterious Island will be gone by late Summer/early Fall, which might encourage them to do another Harryhausen title (or two).

So your guess is as good as mine Joe. Maybe we'll hear something about the next wave after the pre-orders go up in mid-April.

Ditto Pirate King. I mean, any good forum or blog will become a magnet for like minds, hearts, and souls interested in sharing information and experience...even with industry pros who drop by from time to time. I don't feel I'm missing anything I truly value by not having a Facebook or Twitter account.

Mysterious Island had such a rocky history on home video Blu Titan, with colour problems galore...even on Laserdisc and the Harryhausen Collection DVD. And none of the previous versions came close to the quality of sound we got on TT's Blu.

The only *minor* controversy with that release was its isolated soundtrack, which included some sound effects embedded in the final mix...which they just didn't have tracks from the original scoring sessions to eliminate.

Should be no such problems with Journey to the Center of the Earth though. Even the DVD included its original 4-track stereophonic sound.

great tidbits from TT's FB page...

"Any chance of Fox allowing you to release some of their Todd-AO films? "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines", "Hello, Dolly" , "Can-Can" "The Agony and the Esctasy" "Star!" - some of these had isloated soundtracks on the DVD or laserdisc.

Twilight Time DVD Label Hi Greg, yes it's possible--we are trying to sort out the practicalities. In fact here's a little tease; one of the titles you list is our July release, and when Mike Matessino and I went in to view the transfer we couldn't believe the quality of it--right off the 65mm camera neg. Absolutely jawdropping...and yes, we know about the isolated scores, because we did them all!"

and more from Twilight Time....:

"....I think people are going to be surprised by the number of heavyweight titles we have coming in the pipeline...and, as we have stated before, we are covering all genres and all periods of film (at least forties through nineties). Our aim is to provide an eclectic mix of classics both contemporary and historic, and hope that the TT adopters will be mostly tickled by the esoteric offerings. We understand that not everyone will want every film we put out, but the reaction to each of our announcements provides amusement and provokes animated discussion...we encourage that. The other thing to remember is that one of the main reasons the studios like our model so much (premium price, limited quantities), is that it brands the movies as worthy of special consideration...and, as odd as some of our choices might seem at first impression, there is a rationale (be it genre, demographic, collectibility etc.) that informs each and every selection...."

benbess... Thanks for the info. I thought I would try to figure out which July release he was speaking about.. but ALL of them were filmed in 70MM. Your comments and insight are always appreciated. Thanks.

Me, too!

My opinion of Twilight Time as a company has completely 180 degrees flip-flopped since the first time I heard of them (Fright Night, anyone? ). Now, I look forward to many of these releases, price be damned. They put out quality stuff, and they care about the customer, too.

They'll get my support.

The only one I would get out of that list is "Can-Can"(1960), although I've never seen it.
Oh well, my wallet will take the breather gladly (although I'm not getting any June TT release either, but still, most probably Olive and Kino will keep me busy). And there's still their Sony title. I guess they'll announce them in a couple of weeks, when pre-orders for the May titles go up.

My guess would be The Agony and the Esctasy, but Can-Can is my favorite of those 4.

Very disappointing.

No, not disappointing that we will get the titles. Just disappointing that they have to come from Twilight Time.

That paragraph could just as easily have started off by saying, "I think people are going to be surprised at the number of heavyweight titles that Sony and Fox have given up on..." .

I'll reiterate that my disappointment is not with Twilight Time itself. I have a Twilight Time account. I've bought three of their Blu-rays and I'll be ordering JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH the day it goes up for pre-order. But a "heavyweight" title from Twilight Time is a no confidence vote in catalogue titles from the majors. I remember hearing over a year ago about THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN...being prepped for Blu-ray. That was exciting news. The knowledge that I'll likely end up paying $30.00 plus $15.00 shipping to Canada to mail order it from the far corner of the internet is less exciting.

Thank goodness I can get Paramount catalogue titles from Olive at my local store. I'd sure hate to see other major studios going the Twilight Time route for their catalogue.

I get it as well. I am excited when I see an upcoming title of interest but upset that I'm paying a premium to a company that sees no physical releases in years to come after blu.
