Ok, more information the sound:

Spoke to Arrow about this earlier (seriously, I'm sure they're getting sick of me) and they had been reading the comments on here since I posted yesterday. Here's what they had to say:

Quote:
Indeed, synching dialogue is ‘easy’ (within reason obviously) but as our version of Demons is from the original camera negative is does contains a few seconds which prevented audio from other sources, which all derive from versions released through the years without those seconds which has prevented the audio from synching. The result would have meant audio holes and points where the audio wavers, way past the standards of Italian post-synch dubbing.

We could not, unfortunately, restore the original magnetic track because of budget constraints which only stretched to restoring picture. This was a huge undertaking for us – one we normally wouldn’t do. Like most distributors we depend on licensors and producers to do their own remastering which we buy into at a fraction of the cost since it is shared over the world. Going back to the negative is very expensive, especially, for an independent label. As such, we sadly couldn't stretch to adding in the very expensive audio costs.

Had we known this from the start that we wouldn’t be able to get our existing stereo track to synch, we would have had a re-think about our options but then hindsight is always 20/20!.

Hope this clears up the idea that anything 'fishy' is going on. Nothing suspicious, no conspiracies and Arrow haven't been ripped off. It's just the way it goes sometimes when dealing with these licensors.
Never said anything was fishy but that first explanation was rather vague. It is as I expected though, the pic running time is longer by a few seconds. I myself, would rather they trim those seconds out and go with the stereo track. At least then, it would match the theatrical released version with its original stereo audio.

It does not matter what bitrate you present the mono track at, its still limited by the bandwidth of being a one channel mono track.

As soon as someone else releases it with the stereo track with a picture of equal or better quality than the Arrow release, the former release is obsolete, IMO.

Anyway, rather than worrying about it, guess I will wait for that next release...

If you click on the link, you will see that the moderator wrote the last thing., not me. I only wrote "Ok, more information about the sound" in that post.

No comics in the steelbook version, just the booklets I believe.

Also, HMV is selling the individual releases of both movies for £11.99 each.

It wouldn't hurt to tell Amazon UK about the lower price on the first film.

Why? You get pure points with HMV which lead to £££'s vouchers. I've had around £60 in vouchers just by ordering at HMV and not paying any more than the lowest release price around.

Also HMV preorders arrive usually the weekend before the Monday release date.... Unlike amazon.

I'm in the US - I'm assuming Amazon would be cheaper with VAT removal and lower shipping charges?

Really stuck on which to buy...

Demons 1&2 SB £16.99

Or

Demons 1 £11.99 and Demons 2 £11.99

Seems you get a lot more bonus material with the seperate releases

What exactly do you get with the separate releases that isn't included with the SteelBook package?

The four sided arrow release covers and poster.

Also, in Demons you get part one of Demons 3 comic and in Demons 2, you get part 2 of the comic.

I know they are not the best movies in the world, I liked Demons as a kid and haven't seen the sequel, but like the sound of it from the description.

I guess I'd prefer to pay £8.50 a movie rather than £12 each. But then there is the collector in me that wants the individual releases on 'the shelf' next to my other Arrow Blu's.

I'm getting the individual releases, although am tempted to unecessarily purchase the steelbook to satisfy the OCD collector in me.

I think I'm going to cancel my order for the 2 discs and order the steelbook - not a major fan of the cover art, but the original art included with the individual releases isn't much better, and I'd be saving 6 pounds plus some shelf space. The liner notes are still included with the steelbook, correct? It's just the reversible art, posters and comics that aren't?
