What Does Best Buy Promoting Blu-Ray Mean?

im going to pick up Inside man and Bourne Ultimatum tomorrow, so I'll see if they actually say

BB worker: "Umm well..umm...I advise you to get blu ray movies"
Me: " I have Blu ray already"
BB worker: "ok bye"
BB worker: "side note, geek squad doesnt do anything, all they do is take your broken item and send it in to get fixed, most of the time they dont know whats wrong even if you tell them"

This won't apply to buying movies. They asume you already have the DUD player. But try and ask a rep about you hearing DUD is winning this war from an HD DUD site. Ask them about a DUD player? See what they say?

I dont think anyone on Earth actually believes HD DVD still has even a .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance to gain a studio back, but its not right to advise people to not buy something...If someone is short on money and they see a high definition player for 150.00 and the worker says, you should get a blu ray player instead because HD DVD is going to be extinct in a year, now the customer goes to look at the Blu players and sees them starting at 400.00. That worker will see that person walk out of the store nice and fast. They just lost 150.00

Interesting perspective. Let me get this straight. A customer is willing to spend a few thousand on an HD TV. A few thousand on speakers and a receiver, but will quicky walk out the store when they see the price of a blu-ray player? Again the DUD player price argument surfaces as the only viable means of winning the war.

Not everyone buys a few thousand dollar TV. My vizio is 450 for 32". And not everyone buys speakers or recievers, I havent. So yes, $400 close to the same as buying another tv is alot

OK, I respect that. How much did you pay for your TV anyway? Is it 1080p to take full advantage of Blu-ray? I can see your point, but the thing is...

At this point in the game HD DVD is now heading out the door. Why invest in a player for a few movies that will be coming to BD soon anyway? Everyone's finacial situation is different and maybe $150.00 would be good to get some HD movies. And we all know the only reason why the players are at this price now is so Toshiba can dump them on an unsuspecting public as a good DVD upconverters. Just happens to also play HD DVD movies as well. What an unexpected bonus!

My cousins wife works with Paramount(very bottom) she said she expects the war to be over by the winter and they are just stalling to get extra money from HD DVD customers before they transfer. Anyway, she said Transformers and Bourne trilogy wont be released until Fall 09' the earliest. I find it to be worth 150.00 to watch Transformers now.

He's Totally Right, If somebody was gonna buy an HD-DVD player, or nothing at all, I'm gonna tell them that hd-dvd may be dead soon, but right now, it's still looks amazing, and that you get a good deal, and then have them come back to me to buy the blu-ray player

That wouldn't be very fair to the consumer. Do the retail sales associates get a comission on each sale?

I have a Blu ray and HD DVD player and love them both. But HD DVD has 300 movies that arent on Blu ray and will take a long time to be released back on Blu. I dont want to wait to see my favorite movies in High Def. Im not as stubburn as you guys

So what the HD DVDs will just erase? He or she will still have the HD DVDs that he or she bought and they look just as good as blu movies.

but the guy has not bought anything yet has he. If you bought a brand new car just to find out that because of some new safety regulation you can't drive it on the road would you think I can at least drive it on my drive way? The person buying an HD player is doing it to watch HD movies. But he can't buy them because not many studios are supporting HD DVD (and soon none) he can't buy them from BB (if they will be going exclusive soon, which is what I think this announcement means) he can't rent HD DVD movies (Netflix has given up and BlockBusters does not do it at retail and many are saying they won't do it online soon). So what good is it? now obviously if someone like you bought an HD DVD player some time ago and bought many movies to support a format he is in love with, then yes, the movies you have won't be erased. But this is someone that has 0 movies and 0 movies to erase and realistically has 0 chance of having a library of movies worthy of wasting 150$ for.

Ok RIGHT NOW if Paramount and Universal signed a contract to never leave HD DVD with Universal, Paramount, and WB(still neutral until May 31st) 7 movies and a player at $150 is a much better deal than Blu ray for $400 and 5 movies.

Can you guarantee that? Is there a release date? Because last time I checked it takes more than no time to make a blu ray and release it at a perfect time when most people will buy it.

It will be mostly in advertising. Best Buy commercials will only show Blu-ray. Also, Best Buys will have Blu-ray promotional displays... maybe with a really nice TV and Blu-ray playing, but no such display for HD-DVD.
