Drew's contract drama won't be a problem going into the season unless he isn't on the field.

Atlanta hasn't proved anything to me. I don't see how they've improved over last year. After they lost to the Packers in the playoffs 2 years ago they felt the team needed a boost of offense so they traded a whole lotta picks to Julio Jones. This year they scored 2 points in their playoff game and it obviously wasn't on offense.

Bucs are starting over. Panthers will definitely be much better but not truly good for another two years I believe.

Call me biased but I still really love the Saints chances this year, and absolutely love all their defensive free agent pick ups so far this offseason.
I'm not writing them off from the play-offs completely and still consider them to be one of the top 5 teams in the NFL but no team will be under more scrutiny this year than the Saints. Would love to see Brees get another ring, as long as it doesn't come at the expense of my team, guy is one of the best people in sports as far as I can tell.

Same here. I'd still give the Saints an edge over Atlanta in the NFC South. Though I also think Tampa Bay and Carolina will show more improvement. I never understood that Julio Jones trade by Atlanta. They gave up FAR too much for that guy.

Well saints and the boys play again this year. hopefully it's a thanksgiving match-up. The last one was very entertaining, even though it ended with me having a headache for the rest of the day haha.

Brees is EVERYTHING for your offense this year without Payton being there. You can't let him hold out, you have to pay him.

You have to look at the age of the two players and their futures. Ravens management obviously feels Flacco is the future of this team for a long time and will pay him accordingly. How many years does Reed have left in him? He's clearly the better player and a first ballot Hall of Famer, but his body has a lot of wear and tear on it.

Flacco and his agent are after top 5 money. I would much rather go spend ludicrous amounts of money after this season for the best free agent (potentially Drew Brees lol) or top QB prospect. I know how the game is played, but Flacco is not top 5 money. Not even top 10, and if he wants that let him leave after this season and try to get that ridiculous amount elsewhere.

I'd rather trade for Ryan Mallet and have him wait a year to start than pay Flacco what him and his agent are after.

I completely agree with you, but it seems the Ravens front office wants to invest in Flacco longterm.

The problem with Reed is that he talks about possible retirement due to injuries, then asks for a new deal. He did the same thing last offseason. He will be 34 next season with injury questions and that has to be considered if he is asking for top safety money. No doubt he deserves it, but I don't know how he expects to get a new deal when he keeps talking about retiring and also the fact that his neck injury could end his career at any time. He said he feels disrespected, but he signed that deal knowing that (lesser)players would be getting bigger deals down the line. When you sign a contract, you should expect to play it out. These were his words after he requested a new deal during the 2010 season....

Quote:
"The word I got was, 'We're comfortable with where we're at,'" Reed said. "Yes, you would be comfortable with the plays that I'm making on the field and paying me what you're paying me. .. There are six, seven players in front of me at my position [in terms of money] that I honestly wouldn't let hold my jock, and I don't even wear one.'"
As I've said before, Flacco needs to play out the final year of his deal and show more improvement. He is not asking for a new deal right now, unlike Ed Reed and Ray Rice. The only reason to resign him now is for cap reasons. He obviously is not going to get top 5 money, that is just agent talk. What he said is about confidence and contract negotiations. You have to start negotiations somewhere. If he had said he was the 15th best QB in the league, he would have no chance at getting more money than 15th and would also show a lack of confidence in what he is capable of, which he would also be criticized for. Here is the question he was asked and his response in case you missed it....

Quote:
In appearance on Baltimore radio station WNST, Flacco was asked if he thought he was a top-five quarterback in the league. The 27-year-old responded by saying, "I think I’m the best. I don’t think I’m in the top five, I think I’m the best. I wouldn’t be very successful at my job if I didn’t feel that way."

That's what I was thinking about Reed. Seems like the guy is always wishy-washy about retirement.

Flabbergasted.
It's to the point that I don't think it matters if a guy makes $1 mill or $100 mill in his sports career. They go bankrupt regardless. I looked up his career earnings and just in salary he made about $50 mill. Some guys even go bankrupt while still playing these days. Can't say I feel bad for this fool as he was always a lousy POS.

Even funnier is that he "lost" his Super Bowl run. Are you kidding me? I'd guard a championship ring with my friggin life.

Can't say that I feel bad for him in the least bit.
This is a guy who has made more in one year than I will make in a lifetime and somehow managed to blow it all in a relativly short period of time.

I also think it's pitiful that he's behind on child support payments, with as large an income as he has that just shows me he chooses not pay his bills, for his children none the less.

Guess this serves him right for being such a arrogant loud mouth trouble maker.
Karma is a real *****.

98 QBs were drafted since 2003 in Rounds 2-7. Only 1 has won a post-season game(T.J. Yates last year).
It probably has something to do with teams overdrafting QBs in 1st round, but fun fact nonetheless.

The most important position in football, and one that is so hard to succeed in.

Yeah, but I'd be more interested in seeing of those 98 (and even undrafted ones who wound up on teams) how many played more then 10 games, and on any kind of consistent basis. I bet that number would get cut by 70%... Can't thrive with no consistency or not playing.

They have so many rules to protect QBs because at any given time there are really only 8-12 really good QBs in the league, although with Luck and Griffin coming out this year that number goes up by 2.
