I own a PS3 "fat" and I am wondering about the newer slim mode.
The PS3 "fat" is slow to load the netflix app, doesn't btistream DTS-HDMA or Dolbly True HD. Is this changed for the new "slim" models? I ask because I would like to get a seperate machine just for Blu-rays and netflix streaming. I am also considereding going with a Blu-ray player such as the BDP-S790 but its the same price as a PS3 slim so I need to find out more about the PS3. Last edited by Remo; 04-07-2012 at 04:46 PM. |

When the PS3 got the initial firmware upgrade to play 3D BDs, it could only play the core tracks during 3D playback, but has since been upgraded to play lossless audio, as well. What that has to do with Netflix is unclear, seeing as they don't stream lossless audio (nor 3D, unless I'm mistaken).

This could be a big part of the issue. When I had Netflix running on my old FAT PS3, it would load in about the same amount of time as a Blu-ray disc. ![]() |

The plan is keep my PS3 fat just for gaming, I want a seperate machine for DVD / Blu-ray and netflix streaming to keep the wear and tear off the PS3fat. I would also be able to get rid of the Roku player. The reason I have the Roku is for netflix streaming because the PS3 is slow to load that app(very frustrating ![]() |
