I know. When I saw it in theaters, I almost had to go into the lobby to get away from it for a while. Never had that reaction before with a non-documentary. I knew they were actors, but the feeling was just so visceral.

I still wonder why they encoded the newly restored films in VC-1.

Umm Hitler was never elected. A deal was brokered by Franz von Papen and President Hindenberg to give him the chancellorship. It was just that von Papen needed the Nazi party's Reichstag votes in order to have a strong enough coalition to form a valid government. Initially, he did not want want to give Hitler the chancellorship, but Hitler refused to be part of any type of government where he was not Chancellor.

Von Papen therefore gave Hitler the chancellorship on the condition that he would himself would be Vice Chancellor, and Hitler would have only 2 office staff members. It was thought Hitler would fail after given his chance, and he (von Papen) would step in and take the reins. Ultimately, it was the discord of the Weimar Republic that did Nazi Germany in.

Because mid range VC-1 bitrates can look identical in PQ to high range AVC bitrates.

I could watch Schindler's List no matter what kind of mood I'm in. It's my favorite film of all time.

I kinda hate to admit it..... But Schindler's List is one of those movies that makes my eyes a little misty. An amazing film that I am really looking forward to on Blu-ray.

1993 - 2013, so maybe 20th anniversary, I don't think we will get a release this year.

Likely 2013 will include Jurassic Park 3D and Schindler's List 20th anniversary.

Exactly.

And that sure beats my experience with Laser Disc in the early 90's. I remember inviting friends over to watch 'The Abyss' on my sweet new LD player. First of all, those discs were the size of LP's, and I had to flip them a total of 4 times (2 discs total) throughout the film. Talk about a killjoy.

I am expecting a whole slew of extras, interviews and documentaries on this Blu-Ray release (whenever it finally graces our TV's).

The DVD was release was an almost insulting bare-bones affair.

The DVD was an intentionally spare effort, as Spielberg didn't want a film on such a serious subject to be treated like a normal piece of entertainment. I'm not entirely sure it was the right way to go, including just the one doc on his Holocaust history foundation, but it was his decision and I don't expect the film will have any more extras on BD. He has never changed his opinion on audio commentaries either, unlike James Cameron and Michael Mann who relented and started doing them.
