As for the Japan shows (like on the Laserdisc and VHS), did David Fincher film THAT? I have the official VHS from Japan, and I would LOVE to know whether or not he filmed it (well, directed it, at least).

Shame he couldn't direct Truth or Dare. Might have been better. Don't get me wrong- I've been an M fan for 7 years now!
Yes, she had it for all the US shows.
Fincher did not direct that show and he definitely didn't direct the TV special that was released on VHS and laserdisc.

I just watched my blu-ray tonight. I don't think any of the concert footage looked like video, as described in the review. It's possible the lighting had to do with the look of some of the close ups. I couldn't be happier overall, though. I just wish they would have included the extra songs from the VHS.

The review was ridiculously inaccurate in any way. Don't even bother looking at it.

Did Fincher at least film the Japan shows?

I could care less about Barcelona, I didn't like it at all.

And what is Anamorphic?

Again, the only evidence we have of Fincher's involvement is that interview that I posted.

It's locked. Sorry. I set my player to Region B and it displayed a mismatch.

theres a french release later in the year, that will be B.

There are 4 known recordings of the concert

Japanese release
Us leg recorded for the film
Nice (thats the Laser disc)
Barcelona (most known for the fact that she forgots lyrics), this was shown on the BBC.

last year madonna's manager confirmed that they are trying to locate the filmed footage of the concert (filmed for truth or dare) to make a blu-ray. This may be the reason the VHS material is missing from the blu-ray

Typical Lionsgate pricing.

I recently picked up Winter's Bone and Adventureland at Walmart for $5. They had a large cardboard standup display with Lionsgate titles for $5.

This is the last LG catalog release I intend to buy Day One. It seems like all I need to do is wait a week or so and I'll be able to pick it up for between five and eight dollars.

There was never a US leg recorded for the film. All of the concert footage in ToD is from France. Watch the credits.

And Guy Oseary never confirmed that.

Can someone recommend some good Madonna concert dvds?

I just watched this, and I knew it was going to be more documentary than concert footage, but the concert footage was way too slim. This movie is an example of why I like to let an artists work speak for itself, as I could not stand listening to Madonna's idiotic thoughts for almost 2 hours. Really an obnoxious, pretentious woman. I could not believe the drivel that came out of her mouth.

So I'd like to check out a home video release that is strictly a full length concert. The best part in Truth or Dare was the Like A Virgin performance. Sorry to be a negative nancy, I guess this one is for hardcore fans only.

I don't know that I'd say that *any* of madonna's DVD concert releases do it justice.

Virgin tour - not officially released (and the laser/vhs has 3 songs cut)
WTG tour (italy) - it's a combination of the japan and italy shows so you'll see her hair be completely mismatched from one shot to another. japan has never been released officially on DVD.
BA - 3 different shows recorded, none ever officially released on DVD
Girlie - personally, i HATE the new 5.1 mix that was created for the DVD edition. there's far too much audience cheering mixed in. The laser/vhs didn't have that mix
DW - It's oddly the best presentation, probably. IMHO it's her all time weakest tour.
Re-invention - never officially released
Confessions - between the DTS track and the uncompressed audio, the compression REALLY suffers. Horrendously. Blocky. Pixelated. AND they added some really stupid after-effects to it. VERY heavily edited, MTV style
Sticky - VERY heavily edited, MTV style. And almost all of her vocals have been re-recorded. None of it is "live."

So there's your quick and dirty run-down.

So, the Canadian version not only has a slip but it's also a DVD combo pack?

Why on earth does this happen? Makes no sense AT ALL !!!!

I was hoping for Confessions on a Dancefloor concert BD, but now that she is not in Warner Bros my hopes and dreams will not come true.

Drowned World worse than Sticky and Sweet? She strapped on an electric guitar way too much in S&S which almost always results in her murdering the songs. Like a Prayer was bloody fantastic though. DW was a bit less 'upbeat' and party-ish, I guess, but I still rather liked it... I guess I just like that era.

There's a bootleg version of Re-Invention filmed 'properly' in Lisbon I think, which is pretty good. And my Girlie Show DVD is double sided with the stereo track on one side. TBH I've not watched the Confessions Tour on an HDTV but I think that it is pretty great in spite of the editing, that's probably my favourite one that's officially released.

Q: You mentioned that you shot more than 200 hours of film. For a lot of gay people that missing footage is like the holy grail. There’s a snippet or two on the internet, but will fans ever get to see all of it?

A: What’s weird is that we don’t even know where it is. That’s how ****ed up it is. We were trying to get a print to the Legacy Project, Miramax owned it then Miramax was bought by Disney, then Disney decided to shut down Miramax and sold the library to these random distributors. So the person who put out the Blu-ray doesn’t even have the neg for us to maintain. I’ve been dealing with Madonna’s management, asking “Where the **** is this stuff?” It must be in some storage somewhere. Unfortunately, it was handed over to her management so I don’t know. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s discovered a hundred years from now in some office.
