I had a feeling this would be the case, though I absolutely loved Charade. Grant and Hepburn play so well off each other. Very underrated, in my opinion.

I think Notorious is the far better film. NxNW is good, breezy entertainment, but it's lightweight Hitchcock, like To Catch A Thief. I always preferred his darker films, like Notorious, Psycho, Vertigo...even Rear Window, while breezy, has an air of seriousness.

My favorite Cary Grant film, though, is Only Angels Have Wings.

Maybe it's just late and I'm confused, but why would you rank Notorious below NxNW, then, if you think it's the superior film?

MGM's transfer for Notorious isn't terrific at all, but it's serviceable and should not hinder you from purchase.

As for the film, it is rightly considered to be one of Hitchcock's first-order masterpieces, with Psycho, Rear Window and such. It's probably the best film in the middle portion of his career, after his British period but before his big 50's/'Technicolor' period that kickstarted with Dial M For Murder.

North by Northwest is the quintessential Hitch film. Yes it's 'light', but the flawlessness of its execution; the fact that it's just so funny, with the best of Hitchcock's brand of humor; the fabulous photography; that fantastic, bombastic score from Hermann; and just a terrific 'Hitchcock' blonde in Eva Marie Saint places it at the top of Hitchcock's numerous masterpieces for me. It is a first among equals, if you will.

Olive seem to own the rights to quite a few, including OPERATION PETTICOAT, THAT TOUCH OF MINK, INDISCREET and FATHER GOOSE. Hopefully we'll see some before the end of the year, given the rate they're tearing through the releases. I'm sure Cary sells well at Christmas.

Note the previously released North By Northwest (Warner Borthers) is being included in Universal's Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection. Also includes the previously released Psycho. Thirteen others that were not previously released on Blu-ray including The Man Who Knew to Much, Vertigo, and Real Window.

Sorry no new Cary Grant in the set.

Operation Petticoat and Father Goose are also wonderful movies. Tony Curtis is hilarious in petticoat. Hopefully we will get a boxset.
