I've enjoyed Bay's outspokenness on this issue, but this is a bit of a stretch:

He actually seemed quite worried that Paramount taking the money would help the inferior HD DVD win. In fact, when Warner went Blu he posted something along the lines of maybe Blu-ray will succeed after all and we'll eventually get transformers on BD.
