Hmm an interesting point that I read elsewhere:

[Show spoiler]The planet is LV223...Leviticus 22:3

"Say to them: 'For the generations to come, if any of your descendants is ceremonially unclean and yet comes near the sacred offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the LORD, that person must be cut off from my presence. I am the LORD

You have to wonder if there is a connection when Ridley is involved.

I've read some of the negative reviews (and positive). My take is that when a movie like this gets made, the expectations are going to be REALLY high...people want a classic so to speak (Like Alien). Was it THAT good? No, but how many are? I think this was a very, very solid effort which will set the stage for at least 1 followup and I, for one, am happy about that.

I was at a (real) IMAX in Los Angeles which was sold out for a 10:45am showing on Friday. I predicted, and continue to predict, a very good box office this weekend and some good legs over the next few weeks as there isn't a lot of upcoming competition.

If they were going to rate it "R", a little less clothing would have been in order.....Joe Bob says check it out.....

I gave it 3 out of 5 stars. And that is being generous. I even went in with very low expectations and it still disappointed.
I am a massive Alien fan . Love the first 2 movies. Really like Alien 3. Like Alien 4 until you find out Call is a Robot. then the rest of movie is crap.
But this was just a big letdown. Such a waste of a movie and what the promise of this premise is. This does not fulfill the promise of the ideas it presents in the least.

Oh and dont get me started on the (lack of) score. FIrst four Alien movies have classic scores. This has nothing. Not one memorable note. Ugh.
Also this was one of the tamest big R-rated films I have seen.

More I think about this the more I kinda fill up with hatred about it even though I know it isnt that terrible. Just a big letdown. This is worse than Episode 1 without a doubt.

They're running from
[Show spoiler]matured xeno aliens that had popped out of the chests of the dead pile of Space Jockeys we see
. But I guess for some reason the
[Show spoiler]xeno aliens
weren't captured on the holographic surveillance footage.

It was never revealed And why are you being so hostile, I only offered you a retort, is this going to be one of those films who's going to have those fans.

I forgot about the piles of bodies, but I don't think it was a
[Show spoiler]xenomorph
though, as that would make the final scene of the film completely redundent.

Agreed....didn't remember that right off the top of my head.
[Show spoiler]Maybe Ridley is thinking of presenting another honest survivor/savior...someone to go Ripley on us....she did present herself as a rather Christlike figure in the later (not so good) Alien movies. (Ridley....Ripley...rotate the "d" 180 degrees...think about it..... and then go visit the grassy knoll....)

I have a continuity question:

[Show spoiler]
In ALIEN, we find the space jockey/engineer in the pilot seat, with his chest burst open. But at the end of Prometheus, the final engineer has left the pilot seat and goes after Elizabeth in Vickers' life capsule. Right?

But they did have holes in their chest which suggests Xenomorph.
[Show spoiler]My question is, how do we go from Cylinders to Eggs? I'm really looking forward to that explanation.

[Show spoiler]This is not a direct Prequel to Alien.

I'm kinda thinking that's why they weren't shown chasing the Jockeys in the surveillance footage. So the reveal in the last scene would be even more surprising.

It's not a direct tie into Prometheus, and it's not set on the same planet as the one in Alien and Aliens as well.

Some of you thought that Prometheus would be surpassed by Madagascar...

Friday estimates

1. Prometheus -- $21,400,000
2. Madagascar 3 -- $20,450,000
