The trilogy is uneven. The first part is very good and has a real problem to solve.

The second part works pretty well, but there's no conclusion.

The final installment continues on from where Fire ended, so there's the conclusion. It's the least interesting movie of the three as a viewer.

Why is Hornet's Nest weaker?

[Show spoiler]Think about why you like the trilogy. Lisbeth is the only thing that makes it different from a standard police procedural. She's weird and messed up. We like seeing her abilities and competence and we want to know her secrets.

We feel good about her finally avenging her mother.

The final part starts with 90 minutes of her in rehab, so we don't get to see all the abilities we liked in the other installments. When she is eventually released, it turns into a courtroom drama. While it's gratifying that she gets revenge against the people who had wronged her, it's not exciting. It made me happy, but it was technical and without much drama. The scene where she confronted her half-brother was the only one that had any real action.

In short, the final part didn't contain the elements we liked in the first two parts.

Good overall as a trilogy, but I would rank them 4.25, 4.0 and 3.5/5.
I agree with your assessment. It's just quite unfortunate. I think I will purchase just The Girl With Dragon Tattoo now, as opposed to the whole trilogy.

The first part does have a decent resolution/

Maybe the US version will change the story in Hornet's Nest?

All this Titanic stuff on television over the weekend. It seemed I couldn't flip past a station without seeing something like "Mystery of the Titanic solved..." or "What happened to the Titanic..." or a new Titanic recreation, pseudodocumentary (and I'm taking to you, National Geographic Channel and James Cameron), or whatnot. So I went to Youtube and watched a clip from, yes, Raise the Titanic. Oh, it was a different time thirty years back.

It's a shame, but I plan on moving on.

I was finally getting around to posting my top 100 lists, but it's just as well that I didn't post them last night, else they would have been lost. Will get around to them later on...

Just realized that the lists DJmethod and Steve and everybody else made would be lost now. Sorry guys.

Sad times

But, I watched Chronicle again, the extended cut isn't anything great, it has one great added scene that's it The film still stands as a 8.5/10

Last few movies I’ve seen:

Last greatest blind-buys: “The Wizard of Gore” and “The Gore Gore Girls.”

This double-feature is a fine, decadent selection of trashy exploitation flicks. Both films have a significant number of scenes in which characters are horrendously mutilated, their flesh, blood, and innards oozing on the screen…well, you get the idea. The violence is pretty gnarly and sick! At the same time, a lot of it is quite fake-looking, and therefore cheesy, silly, over-the-top (just the way I like it ). You can also expect some nudity, especially in the “Gore Gore Girls.”

Stories for both of these are pretty thin, with limited character development. “Wizard of Gore” is pretty unique in its premise and its plot twists (no matter how contrived they are; maybe this could be the influence for “The Prestige” ). I came out of that one pretty happy. “GGG” has its share of fun moments, but the plot is much weaker.

Both films are cheap and trashy. Photography is thankfully solid most of the time, but the editing can be screwy. Acting and writing are terrible. Production value is low. Music is gaudy. Yeah, it’s great stuff, man.

“Wizard of Gore” 3.5/5
(entertainment: 4/5, story: 3/5, film: 3/5)

“Gore Gore Girls” 3/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, story: 2/5, film: 2.5/5)

Recommendation: For fans of this type of cinema.

Both features look impressive on Blu-Ray…until excess scratches, dirt, and noise pop up. This occurs pretty sporadically; there are moments when it looks very damn perfect, and other times the film shows its age. Thus, detail and sharpness is superb; there are a few soft –looking shots, but it’s likely a source issue. Colors and contrast are good, given the source. Sound quality is awful; lots of hissing and noise, voices and music are shrill.

PQ: 3.5/5, AQ: 0.5/5

If either of these movies was a song, it'd be
[Show spoiler]something trashy.
WARNING: Contains language and perverse lyrics.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

This follow up to “AP: International Man of Mystery” takes a lot of the same slapstick humor from the first film and runs with it even further. While the first film’s jokes are at their most original, this second film manages to be more consistently funny, while introducing a plethora of zany new characters and jokes that would help define the series overall. The problem with this film would be the same as the other “AP” films; it gets a little old hearing Mike Meyer’s jokes and dialogue over and over again. This film actually had me laughing to tears when I saw it fourteen years ago; today, it still manages to eek out some laughs, but not nearly as much as it used to.

The story for this is pretty ambitious; part of this film’s charm is in lampooning the most outlandish Bond pictures, taking the story from an evil underground volcanic lair to an evil moonbase. It’s loaded with all kinds of absurdities, but the film itself begs the audience not to take things seriously; it’s all a fine platform for showcasing the endearing characters and the wild comedy. In the end, it works out pretty well.

The film is pretty slick, filled with solid photography and very vibrant psychedelic colors. Editing is not bad. Acting is quite enthusiastic and fun to watch; Mike Meyers flexes some impressive acting prowess as he plays three different characters. Heather Graham is also a pleasure to watch. Writing is pretty funny. This production has decent sets, props, costumes, and special effects, although they are a little on the fake side. Music is groovy!

4/5 (entertainment: 4.5/5, story: 3/5, film: 3.5/5) Decreased from…4.5/5, or 5/5…

This Blu-Ray looks and sounds good, but never perfect. The visuals look clean and vibrant, with a slight layer of grain, but the film could have been a grade sharper. Sound quality is clean and good, but never overwhelming great.

PQ: 4/5, AQ: 4/5

If this movie was a song it'd be
[Show spoiler]this psychedelic pop song, straight from the movie's soundtrack.
