All this Titanic stuff on television over the weekend. It seemed I couldn't flip past a station without seeing something like "Mystery of the Titanic solved..." or "What happened to the Titanic..." or a new Titanic recreation, pseudodocumentary (and I'm taking to you, National Geographic Channel and James Cameron), or whatnot. So I went to Youtube and watched a clip from, yes, Raise the Titanic. Oh, it was a different time thirty years back.

![]() ![]() It's a shame, but I plan on moving on. I was finally getting around to posting my top 100 lists, but it's just as well that I didn't post them last night, else they would have been lost. Will get around to them later on... Just realized that the lists DJmethod and Steve and everybody else made would be lost now. Sorry guys. ![]() Last edited by Al_The_Strange; 06-09-2012 at 10:13 AM. |

Last few movies I’ve seen:
Last greatest blind-buys: “The Wizard of Gore” and “The Gore Gore Girls.” This double-feature is a fine, decadent selection of trashy exploitation flicks. Both films have a significant number of scenes in which characters are horrendously mutilated, their flesh, blood, and innards oozing on the screen…well, you get the idea. ![]() ![]() Stories for both of these are pretty thin, with limited character development. “Wizard of Gore” is pretty unique in its premise and its plot twists (no matter how contrived they are; maybe this could be the influence for “The Prestige” ![]() Both films are cheap and trashy. Photography is thankfully solid most of the time, but the editing can be screwy. Acting and writing are terrible. Production value is low. Music is gaudy. Yeah, it’s great stuff, man. ![]() “Wizard of Gore” 3.5/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 3/5, film: 3/5) “Gore Gore Girls” 3/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, story: 2/5, film: 2.5/5) Recommendation: For fans of this type of cinema. Both features look impressive on Blu-Ray…until excess scratches, dirt, and noise pop up. This occurs pretty sporadically; there are moments when it looks very damn perfect, and other times the film shows its age. Thus, detail and sharpness is superb; there are a few soft –looking shots, but it’s likely a source issue. Colors and contrast are good, given the source. Sound quality is awful; lots of hissing and noise, voices and music are shrill. PQ: 3.5/5, AQ: 0.5/5 If either of these movies was a song, it'd be [Show spoiler]

Losing all that data may have put a temporary emotional crimp in our thread. In order to regain the proper mood and atmosphere, I will list some pleasant reminders of things we have discussed and established in the past. This should help us find our roots again.
1. My opinons are correct. 2. Your opinions are subject to my scrutiny, correction and approval. 3. French New Wave is made by weirdos and can only be enjoyed by weirdos. 4. The Fountain is the best movie of all time. 5. Steve does not sound like a Canadian. 6. Cars did not suck. 7. Melancholia did suck 8. Netflix discs do not crach PS3s or carry diseases. 9. Bearcat is afraid of 12 black and white old men. 10. Diesel is afraid of Norman Bates. 11. DJMethod likes French New Wave (see # 3 above) 12. Triangle should be revisited for a few more pages. 13. Malick is a lunatic. 14. Al the Strange likes everything. 15. JHiggy only posts when his GF allows him to. 16. People who didnt enjoy Suckerpunch are NSE. 17. Surfdude could find a meaningfull THEME in a spaghetti western. 18. Musicals suck 19. ^Except for The Wizard of Oz 20. ![]() ![]() |

“Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me”
This follow up to “AP: International Man of Mystery” takes a lot of the same slapstick humor from the first film and runs with it even further. While the first film’s jokes are at their most original, this second film manages to be more consistently funny, while introducing a plethora of zany new characters and jokes that would help define the series overall. The problem with this film would be the same as the other “AP” films; it gets a little old hearing Mike Meyer’s jokes and dialogue over and over again. This film actually had me laughing to tears when I saw it fourteen years ago; today, it still manages to eek out some laughs, but not nearly as much as it used to. The story for this is pretty ambitious; part of this film’s charm is in lampooning the most outlandish Bond pictures, taking the story from an evil underground volcanic lair to an evil moonbase. It’s loaded with all kinds of absurdities, but the film itself begs the audience not to take things seriously; it’s all a fine platform for showcasing the endearing characters and the wild comedy. In the end, it works out pretty well. The film is pretty slick, filled with solid photography and very vibrant psychedelic colors. Editing is not bad. Acting is quite enthusiastic and fun to watch; Mike Meyers flexes some impressive acting prowess as he plays three different characters. Heather Graham is also a pleasure to watch. Writing is pretty funny. This production has decent sets, props, costumes, and special effects, although they are a little on the fake side. Music is groovy! 4/5 (entertainment: 4.5/5, story: 3/5, film: 3.5/5) Decreased from…4.5/5, or 5/5… ![]() ![]() This Blu-Ray looks and sounds good, but never perfect. The visuals look clean and vibrant, with a slight layer of grain, but the film could have been a grade sharper. Sound quality is clean and good, but never overwhelming great. PQ: 4/5, AQ: 4/5 If this movie was a song it'd be [Show spoiler]
