Ok guys, this thread is one i'm setting up for people worldwide to share what their methods are for keeping their steelbooks in pristine condition for those that you have opened and those you wish to keep intact.
My steelbook collection is now growing very rapidly and in september it will really have gone bigger with almost the end of the so far listed wave of steelbooks here in the UK having been released. So, the first thing i've now done is told my friend who uses Ebay to order me some of those re-sealable steelbook sleeves that come in a pack of 100 for £5. I've kept some shrinwrapped and in the packaging play sent me but i don't have enough boxes etc, so what do you guys use? I was thinking of getting some small or large boxes and some bubble wrap packaging but can anybody tell me what they use and where they found the best price for them? As said, this is for everybody to share their information for their fellow members so they can know regardless of what company they use in whichever country. I will update the post below this for future links and advice by members per country. |

I use these resealable bags for dvd and bd steelbooks. DVD they are perfect, with BD I trim them a little bit. Just to get them to do what I want.

Saw those posted a while back in another thread but will update when a few more details surface.
Can anybody tell me if they use something a little more heavy duty such as thicker cases just in case of a fall etc to avoid any dents? I know that there are a few cases that are like a few microns thick etc, just wondering if anybody uses them, their opinions etc. Also, anybody know about those bubble wraps specially sized for G2 cases? |

Everyone should research very carefully before wrapping their steelbooks in any material that resembles plastic. I've read a few posts where people have exclaimed that they have had some of their steelbook cases start to rust due to the plastic itself releasing extremely small traces of acid as they break down over time.
In my opinion, unless you live in an extremely humid environment that can't be controlled, it's best to just leave them on your shelf uncovered. ![]() |

Personally, i would rather there be some bubble wrap or something and i don't think the acid claim should really hold true. sounds a bit absurd tbh but i would be willing to read up on examples of when this happened specifically due to the plastic sleeves. |

Personally, if I cared to protect my steelbook cases, I'd look into more of a fabric sleeve solution since those wouldn't be made from a liquid based ingredient structure. As such, if it were to breakdown, it would result in something far less harmful than reverting back to a base liquid component. It just makes sense to me. ![]() P.S. Scratching? Do you let your pets play with the cases? And spilling? WTH? Using steelbooks as coasters and/or dinnerware is not a good idea! I always place my steelbook cases on the TV stand far away from any human interaction while watching the film. ![]() Last edited by Petra_Kalbrain; 06-10-2012 at 12:32 AM. |

It's not that i don't believe it can't happen, it's just that i would need to see some examples of when it has happened. |

Well, I don't protect my cases beyond just having them sit on the shelf with the rest of my collection as is. So, I don't know if there are any solutions for protection that avoid the element of plastic. The only trouble I forsee in a fabric option is that the spine will be much more difficult to read. And that will kind of take away from the attractive quality of it. Don't forget to go back and read my P.S. edit on the previous post... which you quoted before I had added to it. ![]() |

![]() Cheeky git, the point i meant was that people actually said that stacking them on top of each other can cause that to happen. I got my own room i keep them in but extremely limited space so need a simple protection and package method for em to be kept safe. The other thing is i never know when some unwanted moron steps into the room without permission and just happens to drop them while looking at it etc. Too many potential disaster situations to think of ![]() |

im not trying to knock anyone or start an argument but why would you want to put them in plastic bags? Surely you want to display them on ur shelf or on stands? covering them up in plastic just looks 'meh' to me. They might last a bit longer with the plastic over them but dont they just look better without it? also you would need to keep the disc elsewhere otherwise everytime you go to watch the blu ray you would have to unwrap it and seal it again.
makes me laugh when people post pics of there steelbook collection and every steelbook is covered in plastic wrapping lol i think it just looks ugly and wrecks the look of a collection on a shelf, but each to there own Last edited by DJJez; 06-10-2012 at 01:24 AM. |

I keep my SteelBooks in the protective wraps. They look fine on the shelf even with the plastic. They do scratch when removing from / replacing them on the shelf as it happened with some of my SteelBooks before I used the wraps.

I'm gonna tuck some away as well for the future but obviously they'll be factory shrink wrapped, just need to know what bubble casing etc people use to avoid hard bumps etc. |
