Well they still WAY underplayed the fact that Blu Ray has better capacity and other features that HD-DVD did not, but it's nice to see reality creeping in.

That would sure appear to be the case. It's absolutely pathetic that the report felt that was sufficient research. To think that people will make up their minds based on something a reporter tells them when it turns out with 15 minutes of their time they could have gleaned their own information and done a better job of it.

But enough ranting about the incompetence of the media...

From Wikipedia entry for MSNBC...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSNBC

Quote:
Two partnerships with the name MSNBC were founded in 1996 by Microsoft and General Electric's NBC unit, which is now NBC Universal. Although Microsoft and NBC shared operations of MSNBC cable at its founding, it was announced on December 23, 2005, that NBC Universal would purchase a majority stake in the television network, which left Microsoft with 18%. The two companies remain 50-50 partners in msnbc.com. MSNBC, like sister channel CNBC, shares the NBC logo of a rainbow peacock.

I'm pretty new to blu-ray, as I just got my PS3, what are the features they have underplayed? I know a lot of players aren't web enabled, however that seems like a feature you would want to underplay. Or did you mean the soon to come features? Maybe that's why they underplayed it.

Very interesting to see on the MSNBC website. Just stop now please HD DVD group, it's embarassing and you are wasting peoples time and money. I want my Uni and Para BDs already.

Default A quote from the article

I too thought the "blu-ray" name had a part in it's success, but never could quite articulate it's power...like the way it's characterized here...

"Finally, speaking of writing, consider Juliet’s painful rationalization in Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” When she asks, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose/By any other name would smell as sweet,” the answer, of course, is “Everything” is in a name. When it comes to success in the high-tech business, names often matter. Blu-ray — a format that, like HD-DVD, uses blue-colored lasers — sounds like what it is. Its competition didn’t. So a rose might smell as sweet, but it apparently doesn’t sell as sweet. See you at the movies."

It is not over until Universal and Paramount release their first movies on blu in 2008.
Until then it is not over no matter how many blogs, news casts, newspapers, websites, insiders, publicists or anyone else say it is.
