I was surprised when the crowd in my theater applauded at the scene.

Again, wouldn't have been my first choice, but obviously, it was a huge pay off for many fans.

That is indeed an issue. Ridley is most certainly rolling the dice.

Fox wouldn't give him his original two-movie proposal, so he took a big chance with Prometheus. I'm crossing my fingers that he gets his second movie.

I consider myself a huge fan as well and I'm a bit mixed about it. Was it "neat"?...sure, but was it necessary? Neh not really given Shaw left the planet.

I just wasn't very fond of the look to be honest.
[Show spoiler]It looked WAY too big for just being born, even if the Engineers are indeed bigger I wouldnt have expected it to be THAT large so soon. Nit picky stuff I s'pose
.

Why can't Prometheus have been created with the intention for a sequel(s).

Me too. When the credits started rolling I remember saying to myself "aaahhh man...its over?, but it just started!". Very few movies leave me begging for more like Prometheus did and I wouldve killed for 30 more mins.

To each his own I guess. I thought it was a pretty nice pay off.

You're right though, it wasn't even a
[Show spoiler]little chestburster but actually a nearly fully grown Xenomorph right from birth.
Kind of weird but I don't mind it too much.

I agree that the film seemed to be over in a flash. The pacing was quite quick.

Longer Blu-ray cut supposedly + 30 mins deleted scenes including
[Show spoiler]Engineer vs Shaw Axe fight
. Finally my favorite part from the trailer will be on there
Prometheus is my favorite movie of the year that being said there are a lot of ideas in Prometheus and not all of them seem to be explored maybe this can be done 30 minutes of deleted scenes. I know not all the questions brought up in Prometheus will be answered because the writers will no doubt want to tackle these questions in the inevitable sequel or two.

Something I didn't like was how fast it moved in the beginning. It was
[Show spoiler]Engineer seeding earth, Shaw and Hollway finding cave with drawings, then the Prometheus traveling through space all in the first 5-8 minutes.

There were alot of scenes that I felt were cut short. Maybe what I'm trying to say is that when they were cutting this flick and trying to trim the fat it feels like they took off a little bit meat with it.

Who said it was not, yet there is no guarantee it will happen. Scott could just abandon the project or Fox may not want to risk it. New Line went into Lord of the Rings with contracts signed and plans for 3 movies. Lucas and Fox had no idea Star Wars would be a hit. Which is why the movie has a valid ending.

I'm hoping they go with ONE sequel for Prometheus and just make it a good long movie with a run time of 2hr 45mins or more. I hate trilogies for the sake of trilogies.

From the way Ridley talks, they want to do one sequel, but he said he'd need a third film to deliver the first two on AILEN's doorstep. That to me says Prometheus is a two-movie story, and a third film would be a stand-alone bridging tale.

So is it cocky and arrogant if you want to do more than one film but were unable to secure a contract for more than one? And if you were able to secure a contract then it isn't cocky and arrogant?

edit: Do you feel the Ridley should have changed his vision just accommodate in the event his film isn't successful enough to make a sequel?

Thats the one to look out for in a bad way if you ask me. Thatll be the one the studio more than likely screws up.

I agree, because it's the only part of the chain that probably doesn't have a story yet, and Fox might say something like, "Okay, now that we've got all the intellectual BS out of the way, let's make an action film with wider appeal." Scott would then tell them to F-off (just like he did when they wouldn't give him the budget he wanted to tell the Space Jockey story as ALIEN's sequel back in '79), and they'd get some hack to write and direct, and we'd end up with another Ressurection.

Let's pray it does not play out that way this time.

Maybe Cameron could do the bridging movie (but please let someone else write it besides him!).

Alien - 5/5
Aliens - 4/5
Alien3 - 3.5/5
Alien Res - 0/5
Prometheus - 4/5

Alien is the gold standard in the series, unlike it, Aliens hasn't aged as well.

I usually think 3D is a gimmick....but on some films (Hugo) it's amazing. And with this one it really made me feel like I was not just watching a film, but being there with the actors.

Lol thats EXACTLY what I was thinking. That a meeting would go something like "Alright guys...we need HUNDREDS of Xenomorphs on screen, marines with "transformer-like" robot soldiers to assist them, a very brief but noticeable tie-in to the Predator franchise, a theme song by P-Diddy".
