If you're going to include the package films, then THIS is their most obscure theatrical animated feature-length release...so obscure, it doesn't even appear on the imdb. In 1955, to complete his contractual commitment to RKO, Walt released a compilation of the best sequences from Make Mine Music and Melody Time, and called it Music Land (not to be confused with the Silly Symphony short subject). It was a feature-length theatrical release, and above, you'll see the poster. Now, this raises an intriguing possibility. We all know Make Mine Music and Melody Time are destined for a "double feature" blu release. With seamless branching it could be possible to include Music Land as well. The selected sequences were: Trees All The Cats Join In After You’ve Gone Once Upon a Wintertime Pecos Bill Johnny Fedora and Alice Bluebonnet Bumble Boogie Casey At the Bat and Blame It On the Samba It's interesting that Peter and the Wolf didn't make the cut. My second choice for most obscure feature-length largely animated release from Disney would be Victory Through Air Power, which has live action, but the majority of the film is animated. The Black Cauldron, by contrast, moved 5 million units in its original home video release (not too shabby by late-90's standards, roughly the same amount as the Lindsay Lohan remake of The Parent Trap). I'm not attempting to state The Black Cauldron is wildly popular or anything, but it isn't the most obscure Disney animated feature. There simply is no longer any presence for it in the U.S. theme parks, and the characters are not utilized in any marketing materials, or even video games...(except one -- sharp-eyed fans of The Black Cauldron will spot the distinctive hilt of Taran's sword during the originbal Kingdom Hearts opening class-selection sequence. It's a bit toon-ified, but there's no mistaking it.) Last edited by Ernest Rister; 06-14-2012 at 09:06 PM. |

I wouldn't count it as a real movie, just as a different "cut-together" for the movies it took it's clips from. So Black Cauldron is still obviously the least known, most obscure DAC. ![]() |

+1, I watched this and found it to be wonderfully weird, dark and twisted. It's like a Disney movie made on.. well, who knows what. It's so weird because it combines classic Disney heroes and heroines with a very dark and scary background. It's cute, as well. |

I, on the other hand, do not like The Black Cauldron. It's a different Disney film but not "good different" like Lilo & Stitch. I think the setting and the atmosphere are great but the characters are not memorable, the humor is really sparse and the overall plot is too slow. Plus, I find the Gurgi creature really annoying. The only character I like is The Horned King because its a cool villain and its desing is really good. But aside from that I have never cared for The Black Cauldron. It's not the worst disney film (Chicken Little has the top spot) but its not a film I will buy or revisit.

Please, then, explain the appearance of The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh on the "official" list of Disney animated features. |

My point was not to instigate a fight, merely to warn you that people might get pissy / annoyed. Now, let's just get back to discussing movies and their possible blu-ray releases, please? I love hearing different opinions on Cauldron. ![]() |

Well anyway I'd have a hard time defining Music Land as a movie, but if others do that's fine. I don't see the appeal of cutting together bits and pieces from previously released movies and putting it in theaters, but it seems to be an interesting piece of Disney history. I'm gonna look it up. ![]() |

As for the Atlantis sequel, it was compiled from episodes from the Atlantis TV series that was cancelled. It's as crude looking as Belle's Magical World. I really hope they don't bundle it, and it seems unlikely as they didn't put out Magical World either. |
