I'm not stating the "deacon" is the first of its kind. It obviously isn't, since the LV-426 derelict has been there for thousands of years, and clearly something came out of it's chest. Plus the mural doesn't mean they worship it. We have no idea what that is. It could be a prophecy for all we know.

The Deacon isn't the xenomorph from Alien. It had a different lifecycle. It looked nothing like a chestburster. It was born fully developed (apparently).
It is physically different in appearance. (no tail). And, at the end, it is leaving the Luxury Escape Pod with a purpose. To go where? The possibilities are endless. I'll bet the sequel deals a bit more with activity on LV-223. A lot could happen between David saying he could get Shaw to the Engineer homeworld and the shot of the second alien Juggernaut heading for where? Directly to the homeworld or perhaps a sidetrip to a Weyland Corp depot to get David reassembled?

Lets say Vickers survives and makes her way to the still functioning luxury pod after the Deacon leaves. She has oxygen, stores, and a means of deep space communications. Who does she contact? The Prometheus is not the only FTL ship in the Weyland Fleet. We also have the Heliades and probably others. Where is it? Less than two years away? Remember, Vickers is the top Corporate Exec at Weyland. She can move a lot off assets around quickly...if she did survive.

Its up to Ridley and the writers. The possibilities are endless and exciting.
[Show spoiler]Yea, I was wondering just what the heck it was going to do now that all the humans are gone. However...

I could see it hiding somewhere inside the escape shuttle like the one from ALIEN did also. Then...Vickers makes it back to it...takes a long nap until a rescue ship finds it...they bring the whole shebang aboard, and then the Deacon...

parties like its 2099.

Why don't you use spoiler tags? The large red SPOILERS isn't very effective.
Yea, I guess it is like daring someone to look at it.

Cool!

You can just make out one of Giger's original 'facehugger' designs from it.

Excellent. I was looking for that. You can clearly see two arms, two legs and posed in a cross. At the bottom left and right you see the facehugger part of the lifecycle depicted. It looks very much like the Deacon to me. Not like a queen xenomorph. I would surmise that the mural is showing the mature adult form of the
[Show spoiler] Deacon. (obviously not the same Deacon we see in the luxury lifeboat)

It doesn't show the altar with the green crystal on top that appears in the movie just below the mural. When you put the vaulted ceiling, the stone head and the ceiling murals together,
[Show spoiler] it appears to be a place of worship. The stone head and the ceiling mural may depict the first birth of a xenomorph from an Engineer.

Like this movie or hate it, did any of you ABSOLUTLY LOVE the top notch use of practical FX in this movie like I did? This is the first film I have seen in a very, very long time that used so much of it, and proved traditional FX can still trump CGI for believable monsters.

I really hope it triggers a resurgence to practical FX!!

[Show spoiler]The deacon has an endoskeleton, not exo. It also has a tapered head with a fine point at the end.

Yup, I love the practical effects.
[Show spoiler]

Also, animals/creatures can change quite a bit from birth to adult hood. So the shape of the head, etc all can change.. Just look at a frog.. tail to no tail, etc. The mural can very well be the same type of creature as the Deacon or a variation. His head can become more rounded over time as well. Who knows.

True, but the xeno mural shows the traditional life-cycle from facehugger to full adult.
[Show spoiler]The deacon came into existence due to an unintentional chain of events.

Yes. Thats why I said mature adult form, although you can't actually see the tip of its head in the relief. It may actually be pointed. Also the Deacon at the end has been somewhat tainted
[Show spoiler] by the inclusion of Shaw in the lifecycle rather than a facehugger born from an Engineer.

I'm beginning to think that the Xenomorphs are running the
[Show spoiler]show and the Engineers are necessary for their lifecycle. Perhaps the seeding of worlds with Engineer DNA is to breed more Engineers for the Xenomorphs since they cannot breed purely without them. The Engineers may not reproduce at all, so the only way to create more Engineers is through the ritualistic deconstruction of them as we saw at the beginning of the movie. Thats a long time to wait for evolution to finally reach the Engineer stage.

This would mean that the black goo mutagen is a necessary part of the xenomorph lifecycle. Fascinating stuff.

Yeah..still might not be fully developed. Nobody knows at this point.

That is a very interesting possibility.

Haven't ready anyone else comment on it, so maybe I'm the first to say this but
[Show spoiler]my immediate interpretation of the Deacon on the second viewing, was that it was a Queen. Why? In the first viewing, I saw it as the inner jaw protruding like we've seen from every Xenomorph to hit the big screen. However, on my second and subsequent viewings, to me anyway, it appears that far more than just an inner jaw is protruding, and more like its coming out of it's protective sheath if you will, much like we see the Queen Alien do in Aliens. Am I the only one to see it that way?

I dunno, just how it looks.

Exactly my point. How would the engineers know how to draw a wall mural of a mutation that wasn't going to occur for 2000 or more years?

"Are they experts in things that have never ever happened?"

[Show spoiler]It's a brand new life form, just like the squid hugger.

The facehugger from the mural is a rejected idea from the original Alien...

The 1979 alien had the same jaw structure with two sets of teeth that appeared to be metallic.

Yes!

That's the very first thing that I thought of immediately.
[Show spoiler]The slight similarity to the queen's jaw, NOT the other workers/soldiers.

Plus...it had gums this time suggesting Shaw's DNA involvement in it too.

OMG, are you still trying to get to Shell Beach?!

...seriously though—I think remaking Dark City is a colossally BAD idea.
