Any projections for this weekend's take yet? Any peeps out for Fox about the sequel?
Over 74 mill domestic. Weekend looks very strong. Many are deciding the film needs a second and third look.

I believe a decision to go forward with at least one sequel has already been made. Fox may make greenlight officially after this weekend.

21 Mill projected for the weekend. Still #2. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...agascar-338470

Internationally No. 2 on the weekend wasPrometheus, director-coproducer Ridley Scott’s horror-sci/fi title -- loosely linked to his 1979 Alien – which drew $38.6 million in its second weekend on the foreign circuit, playing at 8,088 sites in 50 markets. The 3D title opened in 35 markets of which about eight were in Europe.

Despite warm weather and the Euro Cup, Prometheus nabbed the No. 1 spot for the second straight weekend in the U.K. ($5 million from 1,162 spots for a market cume of $24.8 million) and drew $3.9 million in France from 665 situations for a market cume of $11.9 million over two rounds.

Top new market was Australia where Prometheus opened No. 1 with $7 million swept from 451 locations. Over a dozen days of foreign release, the film has accumulated a total of nearly $100 million offshore ($90.9 million). Openings in 14 more markets including Mexico and Brazil are due this week. IMAX said Prometheus has grossed nearly $5 million so far at IMAX situations.

Well, that Box Office drop is none too surprising considering when I went yesterday there were about 3 or 4 other people in the theater. Even with some problems the film has, I still think it's so much better than much of the stuff that general audiences turn out to see in droves. Hopefully it'll still have made enough for Fox to greenlight a sequel.

Man...I would really LOVE to see a sequel to this, but I just cannot see how it would be filmable to be a big BO draw, in seeing where the plot was heading at the end. As it's main storyline would have to center on
[Show spoiler]Shaw's and David's journey to the Engineer's home world

Agreed.

Very, very very cool. I LOVE all styles of Sc-Fi.

But how could the studio market and sell it properly?

From a post I made on another thread and WRT regard to "Suspension of Disbelief"...

I watched about 20 painful minutes of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" (and for the first time...in my own defense) and I think, relatively speaking, Ms. Stewart was brilliant in SW&TH". I can only hope that whoever is chasing her in "Twilight"....oh well...never mind. Save us all....and people are complaining about Prometheus....wow....

At least with Prometheus, we can say "time will tell" as opposed to "time told". Looking forward to the sequel (of Prometheus that is...).

A L I E N left me no reason to believe there would ever be a sequel. In my book, it's the best movie I've ever seen and it was complete. The only question I had (yes, big) was, what the heck happened to that guy in the cockpit? However, I never had a yearning to have this question answered.

With that, there are so many unanswered questions in Prometheus that it's my belief that it was shot 100% with the mindset that there would be at least 1 more movie to make the connection to A L I E N, and to create the opportunity to have yet another series that branches off into this A L I E N universe that isn't about the Xenormorph or the Space Jockey.

Side note: Anyone kind of annoyed that we had a Space Jockey for 33 yrs, and in one 2 hr movie, we've renamed it an Engineer? Almost like an attempt to erase A L I E N terminology?

Seems like an awful lot effort just to have it all hit the editing floor.

I'm banking on an Extended Version, not just deleted scenes.

I can't wait till Halloween time because I KNOW there is going to be some kick ass Engineer costumes in Hollywood when they shut down Santa Monica for their annual Halloween festival. If only I could afford to make such a cool costume.

Well, here's my theory about where the sequel might be headed...

[Show spoiler]I think it's safe to assume that since we never see any living Engineer's in the Alien quadrilogy, along with the fact that the Earth's population remains unharmed, that the Engineer's race is most likely either extinct or survived by only a small ineffective number scattered throughout the galaxy. So, with that in mind...

Shaw and David travel to the Engineer's home planet where Shaw uncovers the horrible truth about why the Engineers plan to destroy the human race. Upon this discovery, Shaw sets into motion the actions that ultimately lead to the demise of the Engineers and their home planet by unleashing their own bio-weapon against them in order to save Earth. All hell breaks loose as an army of Xenomorphs proceeds to wipe out their race, sending any surviving Engineers fleeing to their ships in order to escape the ensuing apocalypse. This results in one of the infected Engineers crashing into LV426 when an alien unexpectedly bursts through his chest while flying his ship. Meanwhile, David gathers intelligence on the discovery of the Xenomorph lifeform and transmits this information back to Weyland Industries, which ultimately leads to the expedition of the Nostromo and Special Order 937 instructing Ash to ensure the safe return of the newly discovered organism.

A 73% drop off from opening weekend is abysmal. It has nothing to challenege it yet had a huge drop off. Disappointing.

I like it. Pretty good.

BTW, reading that I just thought of a serious plot hole.

Even though it was a secret exploration and none of the members ever returned back to Earth, including the two top company officials(Mr. Weyland and his very lovely daughter). There is STILL the fact that those road maps that Shaw and Holloway found back on earth STILL exist for other people to follow. You would think that at least Weyland Ind. would send out more careful expeditions(this time with higher IQs on board).

Damn!

Sorry to hear about that.

I guess that there are not many Sci-Fi fans left in this world.

What about overseas? You would that would be raking in the big bucks.

Perhaps those road maps are what guided Weyland Industries to send the Nostromo to LV426, since the company would now be armed with the knowledge that a new alien life form had been discovered. This time the secret mission was operating under the cover of a mining vessel with only one crew member (Ash) aware of the company's true intentions. He merely needed to succeed in obtaining the life form and bring it back for analysis. He failed of course.
