Default 40 GB No Longer a Bundle

I haven't seen it posted yet so I apologize if it has been done.

Well, the 80 GB is dead. Now the 40 GB stands alone. In the latest shipments of PS3's, Spider-man 3 is no longer bundled inside. I guess that's what they meant by limited edition.

I'm confused I think. Tell me if I'm gettin' you right. Are you saying they're all out of 80's now, and that the 40's don't have Spiderman anymore?
Sorry if I'm a lil slow right now, I'm hella tired.

I think it's going to hurt sales. I was working the other day and a guy came in to buy a PS3 but we were out of 80's since theyve been discontinued and he really didnt want the non backwards compatible 40gb. They better replace the 80 with whatever theyre cooking up AND SOON!

Backwards compatability was the second most important selling point for me. Right behind Blu-ray. I honestly would not have bought one if the 60GB didn't have BC.

At work(wal mart) we still have 80's and 40's and both have the game and movie respectively. You can still find some, you just have to look and shop around. I've heard people say they found 60's too. I'm sure at the Game Developers Conference or maybe the Tokyo Game Show we'll hear more about Sony's plan about the new 120 or 160 PS3 to put to rest any rumors.

Didn't sony just say that they were going to continue with the movie bundle as it has helped a lot in letting the consumer know that the PS3 is a blu-ray player as well?

What this sounds like is the precursor to a price drop on the 40gb, not sure how many bundled 40gb's are in the pipeline but when it gets to a certain level they'll announce. My guess is it'll be a $50 drop to $349.

The 80gb for all purposes to them is sold out, they'll do nothing with the price of that. The question is, will they replace it with another SKU/bundle? Not sure, but the chances IMO are about 50/50. One thing I am confident in is that its replacement will NOT have B/C. That ship has sailed and won't return unless sales come to a gringing halt.

a new movie is necessary to promote blu out of the box, but S3 kills sales because they are less likely to purchase the spidey box set. They need to update it with a diff movie now.

I feel the same way, especially with Sony talking about downloadable PS2 games (in latest EGM) that would in essence allow the current 40's and the new PS3 (if my gut feeling is correct) to play PS2 games through emulation. I would be surprised if the 80GB replacement still had BC with PS2 games, good news is for those who care it seems Sony may be coming up with a software solution.

No way are they going to Bundle MGS4. Ive never seen an AAA "must have" game (especially one that WASNT 1st party) bundled with a system.

GT5 prologue....now thats a possibility.

But I see something like Warhawk as far more likely.

Toys R Us online still has the 80 Gb for sale. Also, what if they're selling it with the I AM LEGEND movie? That would be sweet.
