Saw this yesternight and I am thoroughly impressed with the 3D....I kept thinking that this was on par with Avatar and Hugo and at the end found out that it was produced by James cameron with Avarat 3D cameras.
The 3D depth shows in every scene and this has to be one of the best out there. Unfortunately its not a family movie owing to grisly endings. But the 3D captured the vastness, incredible depth and claustrophobia for the caves. Many times I found myself panicking with the actors when they got caught in a tight spaces ! |

Picked this up on Amazon.co.uk when it was showing £6. Got that and both Flying Monsters 3D, so shipped it was about $11.
It arrived yesterday and I wanted to throw it in to check it worked okay because I saw some people on another forum mention issues. Ended up watching it all the way through. It loaded pretty slowly at first but was fine. The 3D isn't labeled '3D' so at first I thought I'd got 2 x blu-ray in the box but there's a serial number on the disc and the 3D one has G71 in it and the blu-ray has G51 in it. Anyhow....from the start, the 3D was very strong. Lots of depth throughout. At some times, it felt as though the 3D was a little too strong. There's a point in the movie where they pan up to view part of the cave and there's some very noticeable cross talk. But it's really just the odd instance. As for the movie itself....well, that's down to personal preference. Not normally my kind of movie but I enjoyed it, albeit I was a little freaked out at times. It would have a $15 max price tag for me, even with the decent 3D. It's currently $15.83 shipped from Amazon.co.uk, although shipping is combined if you buy more than one item. |

Watched Sanctum 3D last night. I know alot of people don't like this film but I don't mind it. Sure the acting could be a little better but it does the job.
The 3D was pretty good, it could have been a bit more immersive but still not bad. I did notice one or two strange reflections in the 15 second helicopter scene at the start of the movie. Other than that, decent movie with good 3D, a decent addition to the collection. Now if only they released The Descent in blu-ray with amazing 3D... ![]() |

Excellent 3D in this one, particularly the underwater scenes, of which there are many. The native 3D photography really pops and adds so much to this nail biting and claustrophobic experience. The acting might be a bit wonky at times but the technical presentation is great and i really like the dynamic between the father and son characters. I'm a sucker for caving and underwater stuff and this is a must, with suitably strong native 3D.

Read the whole thread and still torn on whether or not this is worth picking up, does anyone feel like persuading me either way?

the movie isn't great and the 3D has no wow factor. some parts have poor contrast and are actually quite flat. if you are looking for good 3D, this isn't it. if you are curious about the movie, maybe get a cheap used disc.

The movie was shot on early digital cameras in caves where there is little natural light. So yes, the contrast is sub-optimal. That is what a lot of the negative reviews go on about. What they don't mention is that this is great-looking 3D. The depth is very strong, better than what you'll see from most recent 3D cinema. There aren't any 80s style gimmicky pop-outs. It's just strong depth throughout the entire feature. Don't spend a fortune on it. The movie isn't that great, but it is worth seeing in 3D.

Perhaps I find 3D convincing only when the contrast is strong, so that it has a real-life depth to it. Without good contrast, the depth may be there but it just doesn't feel lifelike. I only found a couple or so scenes where the 3D depth stood out because the contrast improved in those scenes. In general, my feel of the 3D in this movie is same as the review by Kenneth Brown here, i.e. in much of the cave scenes, there's not much difference between 3D and 2D. I'm posting this just to clarify what I earlier said for @thestrangestick so that he doesn't get more confused by the drastic differences in opinions. I myself was confused too but decided to go ahead with the purchase. ![]() Last edited by born2bblu; 08-09-2021 at 07:40 PM. |

I picked up a used 3D copy from my local record store a few months ago. I thought the 3D was pretty good for being one of the earlier digital 3D movies to be shot/released. But yes, contrast is quite poor at times and some shots even look a bit blurry. There are some good 3D moments, especially during the underwater bits, but nothing on the level of Hugo or Avatar IMO. Worth a pickup for $15 to $20 at most.

Contrast is more of a 2D picture quality element to me. I look at the stereo depth separate, more based on the interaxial of the cameras and volume and roundness of the stereo image. Sanctum didn't look flat to me.
