I have both the 360 and the PS3. I like them both for different reasons. XBL is the better online service (though it does cost $50 annually instead of being free, like PSN). It is more attractive (blades/tabs, backgraounds, themes are better) and easier to navigate. It is easier to see what your friends are doing online, when they were last on, invites and chats are easier to perform, basically just better overall and the more streamlined service of the two with more options & details included. Too bad the 360 has such a bad hardware failure rate. I use the 360 for most of my gaming (achievement ***** that I am) and the PS3 is used mostly as a blu-ray player. The PS3 Home idea could even things up, we'll have to see when it arrives!

Exactly what I was going to say. In XBL you can also see who you've had contact with over a certain period of time, not to mention being able to invite anybody you've meet in that time period into a game. Oh, and I've waited up to 30 minutes in the COD4 lobby trying to get into a game on my PS3, most I've waited on the 360 was a minute. I'm not a 360 "fanboy" as I do prefer the PS3s capability and believe that the PS3 is a better console. I just think they need to work on their live interface, maybe this will come with HOME when it launches. |

And the best part of PS3 themes is you can make your own....and being able to pick your own background I think makes it a lot better. Last edited by sainraja; 02-14-2008 at 04:39 PM. |

The Icons are fully customizable to anything to master chiefs head to old mario character sprites. I tend to stay with Gundam 00 theme, just love them Gundam Icons. |

I have used both and I like the XMB interface better. The only thing I think the PSN is missing is the ability to add friends while you are playing a game. I guess this will be resolved when we get in-game XMB. Other than that I think the PSN is money. I like the ability to purchase items from the store using real money instead of stupid points. I have my debit card as a funding source so when I make a purchase all I do is hit buy and it's mine, simple as that. No need to go through the pain of buying the proper amount of points to then use to purchase stuff. I think that is one of the worst ideas ever.

An update is coming that addresses in game chatting/invite/interaction features on PSN. There are more details, but Joystiq reported a brief article on it today:
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/in...official-site/ I haven't used Live, but I certainly wouldn't want to pay any more than I did for the console and games. I have no problem with PSN other than the fact it's a barebones service. I play Burnout Paradise on PSN almost daily, and while I can't currently interact with my friends except over Bluetooth headset and the PSEye, the lack of chat doesn't phase me since the service is free. The dedicated servers make the online gameplay seamless and lag free from my experience. I'd also be upset if I couldn't get free demo downloads and game trailers after paying $500 for a console. And in terms of Home, from what I've seen it isn't going to drastically improve the actual online gaming experience, just the interactivity between your friends and other users. I've never been much for achievements or anything, but the trophy room in Home looks absolutely amazing. I'd really like to get in there and give it a whirl, but Home seems like one of those things that will be plagued by delays. |
