Unfortunately not everyone has the option to avoid Cineplex. The only theatre in my small town is a 3 screen out of date theatre (granted it is dirt cheap in comparison to the big guys so I do go there on films I am not completely sold on) and the closest 2 theatres after that are a Cineplex Odeon and a Galaxy.

Luckily Kingston is getting a new Empire Theatres in December which will also give me an IMAX half an hour away (the closest now is 2 and a half hours)

I just want to ask - so these movie cash codes only work if I go and purchase the ticket myself at the theater, but will not work if I do it online?

There is no set rules for how they will work, it depends on the promotion and the theatre you select. Prometheus was used like a credit card at the theatre. Men In Black 3 was an online code you used while ordering your tickets online when you selected any of the major theatre chains as for where you were going to use it.

Not for me. I got my Prometheus movie cash on a Blu of "Last of the Mohicans". Had to be redeemed online. It was very specific on the coupon that it could NOT be redeemed at the Box Office.

Then you were lucky. I got the print-outs that needed a split transaction and entered like a credit card which the staff always has problems with.

I think the type of theatre also decides what type of movie cash you get but I could be wrong.
