United Kingdom Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale

Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

NEWS/TRAILER
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=8471

Quote:
Studio Canal have revealed that they are preparing a Blu-ray release of director Wei Te-Sheng's (Cape No. 7) epic film Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale (2011), starring Masanobu Ando, Umin Boya and Chi-Wei Cheng. Last year, the film was nominated for the prestigious Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival. Street date is July 15th.

The most expensive production in Taiwanese history (budgeted at approximately $25 million), Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale chronicles the true story of Taiwan's aboriginal people and their revolt against the Japanese colonizers in the 1930s.

As much as I hated "Cape No. 7", this one interests me.

The reason I hated "Cape No. 7"? Probably since it was so hyped up and when I finally watched it, it centered around crappy pop-rock music, and the story and filmmaking was so bland....

this isn't one film, but two films.

both (all with English subtitles) and the amalgamated variation appear on the Taiwanese BD set which is out very soon -

I was excited to see this dropped to £10, but the British Video Association are claiming it's been pulled from the release schedule. Taking a chance anyway (blind-buy).

there's also a cheaper (than the taiwanese) HK edition of both seediq bale films on BD. if you can play the zone.

I've been keeping an eye on the various releases via Asian Blu-ray Guide, but I'm currently still region-shackled (to Region-B).
This is a fairly safe bet for me. If it releases, I get it at a great price and it'll play. If it doesn't release, Amazon won't charge me, and I still have access to a bunch of alternative options.

BVA had this listed as 276mins, so the full thing.

Well Go USA/International version: 422 minutes, 2.35:1 aspect
Well Go USA/Standard version: 185 minutes, 2.35:1 aspect
Deltamac/Taiwan: 276 minutes, 1.78:1 aspect
Kam & Ronson/Taiwan: 145 + 132 (277) minutes, "Widescreen, 1.78:1, 2.35:1"

Not sure if those lengths include bonus material, or are they totally different cuts? Also, what's up with the different aspect ratios? I prefer open matte, but not if they simply zoomed in to make it fill 1080p. (That's called "pan-scan" to me.)

Too confusing.

one or the other of the two editions listed as taiwanese is the HK, where it was released by kam & ronson.

the wellgo USA version listed as the international version must be including the features as the amazon USA listing has it with the correct running time for the two films only, and it's possible to see elsewhere that it's one disc per film (2 for this set, as with equivalents elsewhere) whih is good to see.

putting it on my list to buy.

For ones who are pissed that the UK disc is pulled, the Well Go USA disc is region free.

I don't see support for these times online. Well Go advertises versions of 150 minute and 4-1/2 hours.

The Amazon.com blu-ray is titled "Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale [Blu-ray] - 4 1/2 hour International Version (2011)" and the description claims it's 422 minutes, but that would be 7 hours. The shorter Amazon film is described as 185 minutes, which would be 3 hours 5 minutes.

The times of 150 minutes (2-1/2 hours) and 276/277 minutes (4-1/2 hours) seem correct.

True, Amazon.com's listing is wrong. And since you resurrected this thread, whatever happened to the UK release? Just gave up?
