Watched this in 3-D last night with the girlfriend. I really enjoyed it. She didn't care for it. Can't win 'em all!
I really like the implications the movie suggests. I did not find but maybe two lines of dialogue that bad. And the acting was fine, for me. I'd definitely grab this on blu-ray. |

My vehemence against Prometheus is based on my utter disappointment in it. Could I find more constructive things to do? - of course, and my days are mainly spent in constructive persuits. However, the sheer awfulness of Prometheus is something that I am hoping will be addressed to some degree in a Director's Cut, although ultimately I feel it will always be sub-par. In the meantime I'll continue to dive in here from time to time and make the odd snippy remark, remarks which I am 100% certain will be overwhelmed by those saying that Prometheus is an intelligent, well written masterpiece. Those who don't like the negative comments of myself, wormraper and other critics of Prometheus can always put us on their ignore lists. We won't mind. Or just make a thread for Prometheus fans only. |

I understand the detractors comments about being disappointed after being so excited for the movie. I felt the same way. But there was enough that I enjoyed that made me like the movie. However I'm also someone who would rather have something than nothing. Are there films in the Alien series I don't like? Yes. But I'm happy they tried and I got to see something. As fans we'll always want something to be better than it was. Maybe my more often than not disappointment has to do with my getting older. (Also I need to STOP watching trailers now that they give everything away).
I would have loved for Alien 3 to not have had all of the studio interference. I would have loved if someone else had directed Alien: Resurrection and that the 'baby' would have been designed differently. But at the end of the day if someone were to say: 'Do you want to gamble and see if another Alien movie is good or would you rather no more Alien movies'. I would be someone who says Go for it. I saw Prometheus twice. (As much as it pains me to say it because I'm not really a fan of 3D I thought IMAX 3D was amazing for this film). I've preordered the blu-ray and hope that we get an extended cut that ends up improving some of the 'plot' holes in the end (Mainly reactions to people's deaths). I pray for a sequel. Like I said before: [Show spoiler] Does anyone know what the script had in it before the major alien connections were written out? I don't mean the original script (called paradise I believe) which was 2 men taken hostage by the space jockeys where the aliens were ant sized. Last edited by Nikka488; 06-20-2012 at 06:23 PM. |

I think I feel differently after seeing this movie then most people I've spoken to and those who's opinions I've read on forums like this one.
I left a little disappointed with the lack of information but I saw the clear intent to lead it into a sequel and I am determined to reserve final judgement until we find out whether there will be one and the quality of it. After doing some reading online and seeing things that Ridley and the writers admit to that flesh out hints from inside the movie itself, (hints that flew right over my head the one time I saw it) it makes more sense but I still get the feeling that they focused too much on what should not have been spelt out that they missed some of the things that could have been. I'm all for mystery and thinking for myself but the writers insistence that this film should be able to stand on it's own, in my opinion, falls short. Many people needed the internet and Ridley and Lindelof's confirmations one way or the other to even figure out most of what we accept as fact. Having said all that, I am still reserving final judgement because this rumored movie Paradise could come out with some more insight that isn't overly expository but is satisfying overall and it could make the entire journey completely EPIC. Even if that does happen, I still feel Prometheus can't stand on it's own and any claim it can is a bit disingenuous on the writers part. Side note, everytime I read Ridley's quote that's floating around about the Roman empire running around in armor and skirts, I immediately think of the cover of Gladiator with Russell Crowe screaming and a poorly photoshopped Engineer looking down from heaven with his arms folded, a single tear in his eye, and a disapproving sadness on his face and this amuses me. Damn, this thread has went to hell the last few days. A few different people going back and forth for no apparent reason about how awful the movie was. Everybody has an opinion, but some just like to repeat that opinion OVER and OVER and OVER it seems. We all get it guys (or gals), you didn't care for it.
![]() Personally, I liked it enough to possibly see it a second time in theaters, but I sure didn't love it. |
