I have a question for fellow Photoshop fanatics (try saying that three times fast). Is there any way to make a completely accurate custom shape out of a selection, in version CS2? I've tried different tricks with work paths, but they're always a little off, and I'm a stickler for detail.

Selections can be turned into paths in CS2, and then to custom shapes from there...but I'm looking to cut out the middle, since the Work Path tool doesn't give exact results.

No, I clipped out text shapes with the lassos and erasers. There's no accurate font for them, so I tried making work paths from selections, but the variance changes the results. I'd hoped there was some way to convert a selection into a more accurate path, but nothing's worked so far.

![]() I PM'ed Nissen but noticed that he comes on sporadically. I'm just curious if anyone knows how he goes about sharing the files? Is it done through the PM system here, through an online file sharing system, or are e-mails exchanged? Also, if I take them to get printed at my local staples, do I just ask them to print the file as is? Will the size be correct if I do that? Lastly. Any special paper requests I should make? Thanks everyone. ![]() Last edited by Petra_Kalbrain; 06-21-2012 at 11:17 PM. |

I'm talking about doing the reverse, with more accuracy than the Work Path command provides. The selection is a simple "Ctrl+click" with the appropriate layer; I'm looking to make a precise shape from that, with no alterations.

First, quite a few printing programs have some trouble with JPEGs, usually resizing them to whatever size paper is used. So, you may want to request a PDF or TIFF file from the original cover artist.
Second, make sure you tell whoever is printing the file not to make any alterations, and double-check the pixel dimensions with them. Third, I'd suggest a slight gloss paper over matte, because the latter tends to darken colors a bit. The best size would be legal (8.5" x 14"), or 11" x 17". That way, you have plenty of empty space for cutting. |

Though I post infrequently, I always stop by this forum daily. I'm always around :-) And lately I've been putting the film title in the post to accomodate searches. |
