I think I'm going to pass because I'd have NO idea how to rate it. It just doesn't fit on this type of scale. Maybe they'll introduce the campy scale. It gets 10 out of 10....

I will say, though, that I was very sad to see on this occassion that I was the only person in the theater (the silver lining being, of course, that I did not have to deal with any annoying talkers ).
My thoughts exactly.
Thinking of seeing this twice tomorrow. One screening after the other.

Yes they remind me of another person who was obsessed with trying to destroy something he hated

"If you don't have anything nice to say...don't say anything at all.." then again it'll eliminate about 80% of the conversations in here!! Lol!!

The general consensus seems to be..
[Show spoiler]That this is how the engineers seeded life, they would ingest the black goo, and that the goo breaks down their DNA and in the process makes the primordial soup that everything else can come from. It is also implied that in the process to "make life" one must give their life up... so yes he is essentially chosen to commit suicide in this instance.

That was funny. Even though I hate your opinion.
JK man.

I will be finally seeing this movie after the weekend. I have avoided this thread because some people don't use spoilers, so now I have no idea wether it's good or not. Then again, I actually liked the two films in Alien Anthology that get so much hate. Yeah, I said it and meant it.
I'm pretty psyched!

Only 30 % of the foreign box office is reported through 6/17, the rest show totals through 6/10. It has not opened in around 15 countries yet, including Germany and Italy.

Not to mention that when the DVD and Blu Ray hits, this will have ended up being a highly profitable film for Fox. Hopefully the studios noticed that a R rating doesn't equal box office poison. Poorly marketed and/or poorly made films is the true kiss of death.

So when can we expect a sequel announcement?

That makes sense and is what I took away as the basic premise of the movie.... So does that mean that
[Show spoiler] when the goo/"primordial soup" mixes with the environment determines the organism created: humans when mixed with water, then when the resultant organisms mix, we get: squidward when the infected doctor mixed with Lizbeth, Zenomorph when squidward is mixed with the Engineer.... etc..... I guess.

I agree with you. I just seen it a few hours ago.

I'll probably still buy it once it comes out (when it get's cheap) but I was a tad dissapointed. It just seemed like..nothing really happened and I already seen it in the trailers. But, maybe I'll enjoy it more in the comfort of my own home without sitting there for over 2 hours straight like in a cinema. I always give big films I don't like so much a second chance and sometimes enjoy them a lot more.

Going to see viewing #3 tonight. I've been reading all the posts and I must say that I feel that even though the movie has its head scratching moments, that the storyline is full enough to get everyone talking and speculating. Whether you hate it or love it, or somewhere in the middle, it's subject matter definately provokes thought about our creation. I think where the film falls short is driving the idea of something like that creating us... If done properly, it would have been just as creepy as the original alien. This film also plays out and reveals just enough to come across as just the tip of the iceberg... I personally cannot wait for the sequels and find out how the juggernaut crashes on LV-426!

[Show spoiler] What was the difference between the large urns and the smaller urns in the tomb?

Did anyone happen to see anything on the holograph to give us a clue as to why the Engineer collapsed at the doors? The part where Shaw was watching it over and over.

Yeah, I was joking around when I made that comment. Just making fun of the controversy about the film. I love the movie, I've seen it twice. Hopefully they'll do a sequel and continue the story started in this movie.
