It's too dark in here for pictures or to even see what the audio setup looks like. Maybe once they throw something up on the screen I'll be able to get a better idea.

There are lots of speakers but it's too dark to get really good pictures or to even see all of them. This is probably the best I can get of the overhead speakers in the front. The back of the theatre looks to have less but bigger overhead speakers.

Best theater experience ever! Right before the movie started a Dolby representative came out(a few of us started clapping) to explain what was going on and what to look for during the movie! I noticed two overhead rows of speakers that really stood out during the atmos intro, pixar short film and the feature film!

Yeah, the experience was awesome. While I thought Brave did a good job using the technology, I thought the Atmos Intro was way more impressive. I'm guessing this will only get better as the mixers become more experienced using the tech.

I would totally agree on it getting better. The mix was great too! You can actually distinguish where the different sounds were coming from and they also used the bass really well! I talked to the Dolby rep for a couple of mins after the movie and told him my thoughts and he was pretty cool and actually cared about my thoughts and engaged me in conversation!

I forgot to mention that we also got free posters and took a brief survey after the movie was over.

I'm hoping The Hobbit uses it.

This was from early May:
Quote:
The news comes as Peter Jackson is reportedly considering the new Dolby Atmos audio format for the upcoming release of "The Hobbit". Dolby are headed to New Zealand to give the filmmaker a demonstration, but Jackson has already said "If we can do it I would be pretty keen.”

Very cool guys, & thanks for relaying each of your experiences!!

By chance, did he give any indication (if any) of when he expects this system to roll out in more theaters in the States?

I am seriously Jealous of you guys!

Nope... Sorry. I'm also wondering how long will it take to get the technology to receivers so that we can enjoy it at home.

No problem buddy - I'm sure we'll be hearing more on this as the months go by - as well as what Other States/Theatres will be getting the Technology also.

Born and raised in KC (family is still there). I'm in Memphis now.

We're going home to do a BBQ tour with some friends in July. Of course Boulevard is booked up for tours, so now we have an extra day.

I wonder if Brave will still be showing...

Not sure when you were last here, but you MUST visit Oklahoma Joe's and Jackstack. People outside of KC still view Arthur Bryant's or Gates as the tops, but people in KC know they've long since been surpassed.

But I imagine Brave will still be showing then. Only question is whether Barrywoods will have moved it out of the Atmos theater.

It probably won't be showing in the EXT room when you come up here because they use that room for new releases so it changes each week.

I'm from MS and everybody up here always says Gates but imo thats the worst BBQ i've ever had(I've never seen a place burn the ribs and try to cover it with sauce like nothing happened/ at different locations)!I do like Oklahoma Joe's and i love Rosedale's! I also just found out today that the theater downtown is no longer owned by AMC and it now belongs to Alamo Drafthouse.

I'm from GA, and Gates was also always highly recommended to me when I came out here, but I'll never understand them. I've never gotten bad BBQ there, but I've never gotten good BBQ either.

It will be interesting seeing Mainstreet change into an Alamo Drafthouse, but I'm excited!
