Just "The Hobbit" films in 2D for me, I already have the "LOTR EE'S," so there'll be no need to rebuy those...Can't wait for "the Hobbit" to hit theaters, they will be the last two films that I see on the big screen. I've decided to retire going to the cinema, and I want my last experiences to be memorable, so I've decided to conclude with "The Hobbit." It's a fitting end of sorts, and I'm sure they'll be outstanding experiences!

So Im assuming they don't plan to do another release until both Hobbits are ready to come out on BR? Ive been holding off hoping for a remaster without green tint or a new version on a quad layer disk to have each film all on a single disk. I guess I'm holding my breath for nothing?

I just washed these again. I think I enjoyed them more this time than I have before, and for some reason I cried more than I usually do (I usually don't lol). If I would rate them, I would rate them like this:

Tho it's really hard to do so.

No, maybe not. And I certainly don't suggest I have any particular information that it will.

I just ... well, my theory on the Fellowship remaster is that we got a kind of quick-and-dirty solution to the colour mastering problem; because of the timing of the release, that's all that could be achieved. If Jackson was involved in it at all it would only have been fairly minimally, given how busy he was with other things, and contrary to popular rhetoric he's never said that it was how he actually wanted the film to look.

The studio must recognise that the end product they've given us is ... well, not great (in respect of the palette; otherwise, it's pretty amazing), and if they have any sense of responsibility to their own product they'll want to fix it. It's probably going to need stripping back to its digital components and recompositing, so — given that we now have the QaD version — I guess that's a big "if".

Yep, especially since Warner Bros released sets without the codes there is no hoping that they may be ones that will still be available after the expiration date. Warner Bros has been extremely inconsistent with that. Not as bad as Universal though.

Of course ...just remember that 99.9% of the time, dreams do NOT come true ...This whole "cyan tint" argument is one I've just not really understood. "Fellowship EE" looks great, and it's not going to look much better than it does no matter what they do to it. It's a much stronger presentation than the original Blu, and I do believe the slight shift in color-grading was the filmmakers intent. I wish people would stop complaining about it, and enjoy it for what it is. I'm just as much a fan of the "LOTR" trilogy as anybody, and "FOTR" is easily my favorite of the three. If I had any serious reservations whatsoever regarding the EE Blu, I would have certainly expressed them, and probably complained endlessly. However, after having viewed it a few times now, I have no qualms whatsoever...it's a gorgeous presentation, and I wouldn't rebuy it even if they did remaster it...For those who want to see "FOTR" color-grading as it appeared in theaters, buy the original Blu (or old DVD releases), for those who want to see it as I believe it was intended to be seen, and a much better presentation at that, buy the EE trilogy.

Why would that happen? Aside from the fan club credits on "Return of the King", there doesn't seem to be any need for more.

Disc 1: 1 hour, 45 minutes, 38 seconds
Disc 2: 2 hours, 2 minutes, 25 seconds (including fan club credits)

That gives a total of 3 hours, 48 minutes, 3 seconds for the first film's extended cut.

Correct. It's the the fan-club credits that add the time...

Yes, but they were on the DVD as well. joliefan is asking about a difference he/she has seen listed between the DVD running time and the BD running time, both for the EE cut.

Assuming you're talking about Region 1 DVD and not Region 2 or 4 (where PAL speed-up would come into play), they should be the same length. Where did you see the "208 min" figure listed, joliefan?

With respect, that's your take on it; I'm not alone in seeing it differently. From my perspective, I figure people who say it looks "great", or even more those who claim that they can't even see the tint overlay, can't be very observant of what they're actually seeing. And honestly, there's no way that Jackson wanted this film to look this way, since it's so markedly different in palette from the other two films. Even the paltry statement that came from WB about the issue acknowledges that there was a problem with the colour grading and this was an attempt to remedy it. It's not an artistic choice.

And thanks, but I didn't complain about the issue, so I take a slight exception to your mischaracterisation of what was said in that respect; I expressed hope that it might be fixed.

For those who want to see "FOTR" color-grading as it appeared in theaters, buy the original Blu (or old DVD releases)

What we got in the cinemas was close to what we got in the first BD release of the cinema versions, and it contained the colour grading problems that the teal overlay was supposed to address. The original problems were introduced in the post-production of the film before it was ever released, so ... nice try, Captain Obvious, but no cookie!
